Really try to have your ducks in a row and have a company selected to go to as soon as you graduate. It will be so much easier on you and fresh in your mind if you can get to your chosen company a couple days or so after you are out.

In the same breath, don't waste your time filling out hundreds of apps for pre-hire. You said you have done your homework so you have a good idea of what you want or what direction you want to go. Start calling some recruiters of the companies you think you may want to drive for and go from there. As long as your mvr is good and you don't have a criminal past then you shouldn't have a problem getting hired on with any of them.

Thanks, yeah, I know I want to go with SNI, but I guess I shouldn't pin all my hopes on them and pic a couple of others to talk to as well...As I said in my "One Ticket" thread, I do have one ticket, two years old--nothing before that and nothing since so I should be ok.

Aparently, with the city and suburbam depsrtments for WIA merging, all funding has been frozen. Worst case scenario would be July 1st, when their new fiscal year starts.

Unfortunately, I don't think I'll last that long, but I'm going to see a company tomorrow about driving a cab in the interim--I just hope it doesn't mess with my WIA eligibility...

Thanks...I was just thinking, I know there are some companies (yeah, probably mostly BFIs) that offer CDL training as well, in return for a commitment. The commitment doesn't bother me, my life can only get better from where I'm at, but after looking at a few company websites, I can't seem to confirm which, if any offer this.

Any ideas?

I would personally recommend Central. I was just telling another guy that Central isn't quite a mega-carrier and still treats their drivers like humans instead of numbers. They have a school and you can get started for next to nothing. I don't know why everyone is scared of the commitment thing. They aren't going to publicly hang you if you quit. It really is a good opportunity to get trained and make some good money without risking your wallet.

If you decided to go for it you could be in school by next week!

Central looked good, until I saw this:

• Required $100.00 Registration fee
• Academy training is not paid training

I don't have the money, and even though they pay for everything else, I would have to have the money for both food during training and licensing fees. Got em bookmarked anyways, thanks.
