I know your take home doesn't go very far in MA but OTR pay will most likely be even less . What are your reasons for wanting to go OTR ?
(MA is a nice place to visit but I wouldn't want to live there . I saw Charlie Daniels at Indian Ranch last year )

guess it depends on which otr company you end up going with.......

i would be taking a paycut to do your job and i'm only first year and just got another bump in the milage pay.....and home every weekend as well......

i'll take my otr over your local any day of the week.......

having said that, are there no other or better paying local options where you are? otr is really well suited for some of us, but not so much for many others......to find a good otr company where it fits you and you fit them seems to be kind of a rare thing based on alot of the posts all over this forum......i got lucky and found one, but you have to do your homework and do the legwork and get out there and find them......they don't find you......look to smaller companies and don't go with the majors if you really want to do otr and hopefully have a good experience with it......

good luck to you whichever way you chose to go

    in a word, YES.

also, mentally unfit, mentally unstable, very disturbed, and very insane.

although OTR is what i would HIGHLY recommend for a newbie/wannabe, for someone like you THAT HAS experience, i would say NO!!!

right now, even though you may work LONG hours, you are still home weekends or daily or nightly depending on your job now.

you get to eat YOUR food, sleep in YOUR bed, and get you use YOUR bathroom, tub or shower.

you get to do YOUR laundry at HOME, get to go to YOUR barber, butcher, candlestick maker, and you wanna give that all up..???

the "insanity line", forms at the left of sanity...

Do you think what you're bringing home a week is good money? That's what I make a week.I drive locally and I think the pay sucks. You can make that OTR or more if you choose some off the wall company. But with the mega carriers, highly unlikely. You're looken at $300.00 to $500.00 a week and sometimes not even that.At least you do know what your weekly checks are.OTR you never know what you'll be making every week.

sometimes, many of us "have it good", but do not always "see that", until we make that fateful leap.

Are you in it for the money, or are you in it for the experience(with money as a bonus)? If you're in it for the money, then I'd say stay put. Despite what recruiters will tell you, OTR isn't a get rich quick scheme.

OTOH, if you'd like to get out of MA and travel the country and see what this lifestyle is all about, then Id say you aren't crazy at all. If you want to do something, DO IT because you want to...not because you have to.
