I would love to know what this company is that hires new drivers, runs paper logs and actually gets enough miles that you have to "correct" logs to stay legal. Sounds more like a well versed recruiter! LOL

Seriously though I usually appease the pencil pushers "suggestions" at work on the occasion that I have to run logs. They have a way about finding errors in my load times and drive times that tend to work out to my favor...hmm wonder why. LOL

Well imagine this scenario. I pick up a load in Antioch Cali, I have 5 stops. Bolingbrook Il, Delphos Oh, Nazareth Pa, Hackensack NJ, and then empty out at Middleboro Mass. I have 4 fuel stops. Sparks NV, Cheyenne Wy, La Porte Ind and Delaware NJ.

My appt schedule will run like this. Bolingbrook IL at 12am on the 25th, Delphos Oh at 1PM on the 25th, Nazareth PA at 8 AM on 26th, Hackensack NJ at 2 PM on 26th and Middleboro Mass at 4:30 am on 27th. Then have to be in Londonderry NH by 9:30 AM for a pickup on the 27th which delivers to Modesto Cali on the 1st at 5:30 am. Do the math and tell me if you can do it legally? This is how I have been run for the last 6 months. I usually do get a legit 34hr restart back at Antioch Ca before I leave to go east again. But still. I am asked to do a 2nd restart at Bolingbrook which will legally get me back west as far as Tooele UT before I run out of hours. Then I'm asked to 'pencil in' a restart and run dummy logs to get me over Donner and into Cali. Then during my restart I rewrite my logs to catch up with reality. Fortunately 2 of the fuel stops dont show times on their receipts. But often I am just asked to hide my trip pack and if stopped just say I mailed them off already. DOT so far has only asked for what ever BOL that shows my next stop.

My biggest fear is getting into an accident where someone is injured or killed. I get investigated, they discover my logs are not accurate and I go to prison for 15 - 30 yrs for manslaughter. I've never run e-logs, so IMO I dont think it can be any worse then how I am run now. Its not like I'm being paid by the mile. I'm 1099 salaried. I had to set up a DBA and register an EIN. Company owner has me written up as a private contractor. Not even a company driver.

I know the speeches,.. I've heard it all already. With out recent experience, despite having 6 yrs prior 15 yrs ago,.. I coudnt find work. This guy made promises and sold me on working for a decent, safe and respectable company. All lies. I hung in for as long as I have in order to get as much 'recent' experience so I can look better on paper to get hired on with a better company. I am home now and have done nothing but make phone calls and do online applications. So far the 6 months seems to have paid off. I have some very promising leads and interest. Just doing my research so I dont go from one a-hole to another a-hole. Hopefully just take the lessor of 6 evils.

I used to run hard when I was younger and driving back in the 80's and 90's. But laws and DOT are so strict now. I have never been so scrutinized in all my life. I'd rather deal with OSHA then how I feel each time DOT pulled me in because the company I drive for is on their check list.

Oh man it went from good to better in my eyes! LOL I would love to be 1099 with out running my own truck. I would write off every dime I made every year. My new line would be "can I get two copies of that receipt?"

4000+ miles a week for $500 1099? Pay your own tolls in and out of New England, pay $5.15 for priority stamp for each trip pack to send logs, bols and assorted paperwork back to office. If lug nut caps fall off truck wheel or are stolen while at truck stop or shipper, I am required to replace. He does NOT pay lumper fees. I am required to lump my own loads or I can pay for the lumper myself. Pulling out 12 pallets that break down into 25 is no picnic. I can go on and on. I personally dont think its worth it.

If you want, I can send you to this guy and I'm sure he'd love to hire you. I'm in a very nice 2008 KW T660, fully loaded with everything imaginable. 625hp CAT, 18 spd. The seat will be available after I am gone. More power to you if you choose to work for him.
