Wow great responses guys. When I get my year I was thinking of going to another company that I could work my way into a class a truck. Seems like a nightmare getting work in freight when your a new guy. My bills are outrageous as it is and I can't rely on mom and dad 3000 miles away

Stay where you are, Con-way can wait and it is a rough place to start. You may work dock, city and linehaul all in a days work.

Is it realistic to get at least 35 hours a week to start?

I don't mind doing dock work when it's slow as long as I'm getting hours. Is this the case? Am I totally screwed out of work when it's slow?

Had an interview and road test today. Went well I need to work on the small trailers and I can't float gears?!???!!!?? Small terminal only about 15 drivers and two linehaul runs. Everyone gets work they said. They want me to return sometime next week... Gonna be a long weekend of thinking

I had a similar thing come up with my first job out of driving school...left the "better" job to get driving experience in a class A vehicle and potentially make better money down the road. Don't know if it was the smart thing to do or not, so I can't really tell you what to do. My advice, for what its worth, would be to sit down with your current boss because he sounds decent and tell him straight up that you are getting antsy for some Class-A experience. Could be that he can find a Class-A vehicle to get you some seat time in. If not, then you have the tough choice to make.
