Keep an Eye and an Ear on your Tires
With temps easily breaking a 100 degrees in the South and East lately, the tires that made it through the cooler months of Winter/Spring are failing all across america at phenomenal rates. Great time to be in tire sales. Gauge them but a tire that's developed an internal or external defect WILL FAIL once the temps rise above 98 degrees regardless of pressure, and maintained speeds over 65 MPH will accelerate the process
For the newer guys and gals ... If you hear a "pop", somebody's tire near you just gave up and blew out. Check your mirrors for a bit and slow down and look for bits of tire flying off your rig until you can rule yourself out as the victim. Seen 2 blow just yesterday in the Dallas area. Keep your radio turned down to a reasonable level, for every ones sake. Also, watch out for tire pieces and casings in the road, they're everywhere.

Heat, tire's worst enemy. Ambient temp, 100 degrees, highway speed, 70mph, asphalt highway, yikes ! People, we're talking hot tires.........and a good potential for tire failure. Now crank it up to 75 with a heavy load and you're pushing it.

Then throw in a chicago type expressway with pot holes etc....
Leave a bit more distance between you and the vehicle you are following for reaction time to objects in the road.
