I use a radar detector in my POV only. While driving at work I dont need it as I always do the speed limit or slower. Being paid hourly makes you want to do that, plus being a volunteer firefighter I know what could happen with speeding and especially in a truck

I remember a friends Dad once saying: " I don't speed, but I still have a radar detector and police scanner in all my vehicles, why, from a safety standpoint. I want to know where all the cops are at all times. I know what roads are going to be the most patrolled and hence, maybe safer. But they also give me a heads up to where the idiots are."

Get a good one and just set it on the dash and pull it off and lay it between the seats when going into a scale or if you get stopped... It's not that big of a deal...

We know that. Make sure you wear your jammies too! Preferably the ones with the little booties and super heroes on it!

This is straight from the FMCSA website!
§ 393.76Sleeper berths.
(e) Equipment. A sleeper berth must be properly equipped for sleeping. Its equipment must include:
(1) Adequate bedclothing and blankets
I'm not going to condemn anyone that has a detector or is against it. It's a personal choice one knows they can be held accountable for. There is a responsible and irresponsible way to use one.
One thing they do help is what does everyone do when they see a cop? They slam on their brakes. It's nice to know that's about to happen two minutes ahead of time.

well if you are caught with a radar detector in a CMV, there WILL BE CSA POINTS against you, for 5 up front, multiplied by 3, which means a total of 15 points, for the first 12 months..
here it is, 392.71 (a)
http://www.csa2010.com/articles/CSA_...rity_Chart.htm
so i'd strongly suggest NOT having one in a CMV

Man you people and your misinformation about points. You do realize those people are not really in charge don't you?

As to the OP it is illegal. When you are caught we look forward to advising you on ways to except responsibility for your ticket.

What difference does it make as long as the information is accurate? Point values look the same here:
http://csa.fmcsa.dot.gov/Documents/SMSMethodology.pdf
Scroll down to A-5 (page 78 in the pdf)...7th from the bottom of the page:
392.71(a) / Using or equipping a CMV with radar detector / Speeding Related / 5 / Y
