CDL with endorsements and security clearance, but no experience. Jobs???
I just got out of the Army with an Honorable discharge and looking to use my Class A CDL for employment. I do have my tanker, doubles/triples and hazmat endorsements. I also have a Top-Secret/SCI security clearance if it even matters. I have had the CDL for about 2 years now, though I haven't done anything with it regarding employment. I do have several years experience driving around 10,000 gallon aviation fuel trucks fueling up corporate and military aircraft.
I have read all the posts and job descriptions saying that companies require at least 1 year experience. So where would be the best place to start?? And I prefer not to be an OTR driver as the whole reason I got out of the Army is to be home with my wife and 7 month old son more frequently. I'm open to local, dedicated or oil field work. I'm from the Dallas area if it helps
Thanks in advance for any input and/or suggestions!!

If you went to an accredited trucking school con-way freight will take ya. Old Dominion and a few others might take you as well. I was hired at Freight within 3 weeks of EASing from the Marines, so it is possible.
Good luck brother. Or if you want to do something with that TS go to clearancejobs.com. Tons of jobs stateside and overseas. You could go work on the Gboss at some nice fob and make 150k a year. Trucking blows.

You could call any of the AA&E haulers that require DoD security clearences, Boyle, R&R Trucking, TSMT, they might be able to help you out. You would be driving team with someone else though.

Hey it is nice to meet a fellow Fueler, I usually work on the commercial side of aviation (DL, WN, FL, US, UA, etc.) with GA and Military experience myself. I also drive a 10k lift truck myself, but I lack the CDL. It is a fun job, but the pay sucks though... I myself is planning on getting a CDL with Haz, and Tanker. I am studying myself for the CDL written, and I am going to take the Haz and tanker when I go in for my permit.
Good luck with your endeavors!

Yes, I did go to an accredited trucking school. It was a community college and I believe it was a 200 hour course. I got somewhere between 400-500 miles of actual driving in. Not just in a parking lot with cones. I will look at Conway. And yeah I've been all over Clearance Jobs and Cleared Connections other security clearance job sites. I know I could make a ton of money if I go overseas as a contractor. Thing is I want to be home with my family, so I would rather make less money and be home to raise my son.

You have some things the typical rookie does not. Fireball gave you some darn good advice. You should be pursuing AA&E or DOE carriers with your clearance. There are only a few of them out there compared to the rest of trucking, and in general, they treat their people way better and pay better. The trick is you have to run team. If you're OK with that, you'll make way more than you will at Conway or any other carrier of the type.
