A misdemeanor possession conviction won't necessarily be a career ender. But it isn't going to make things any easier on you. I suspect it will definitely limit your job opportunities early on so you would do well to expect that. But it should also have less and less effect as time goes on, assuming of course that you keep on the straight and narrow. The other limiting factor for you is going to be your age. Expect opportunities to be limited until you hit 23.

But keep in mind that limited is not the same as non-existent. And if you manage to find a job and keep it for two years, and also keep your record clean of course, you'll be 23 with 2 years of experience under your belt. Which means you'll be worlds ahead of most of the other 23-29 year olds applying for trucking jobs. At that point, the world should be your oyster as far as hiring goes. Its going to be rough going at the beginning and the jobs you can manage to get may well suck worse than suckiest suck you can imagine. But you have the opportunity to do very well for yourself in the end if you can stick it out through the early years. Keep your eyes on the prize and best of luck to you on your journey.

You may have your name called more often for random drug screens because of your conviction but I don't see it to be a big issue for you to get a job. Good luck!

First offense class B got you weeks in jail? Even though Texas is hard core on even small amounts of marijuana (under 2 ounces) I have never heard of anyone spending more then a week in jail even if driving at time of arrest, the first time. Was this your first conviction for possession?

I would try to have the conviction sealed or expunged if you have a clean record otherwise.

You could also start sending in applications for local jobs and see what kind of responses you do or don't get

The suspension of drivers license for drug possession alone will not allow you in to some driving schools and starter companies.

I have never been in your situation but from what I am told, I do not see how it will be not a problem to get into trucking with that on your record

Yea it was my first conviction, it was my first time ever even being pulled over. Thats the only thing on my record, no speeding tickets or anything else. One time was enough to realize id rather not go down that road. So I havent smoked or been around that crowd ever since. I was just hoping this 1. misdemeanor wouldnt ruin my chances of getting a job once i do turn 21. I appreciate the replies, and i will keep trying hard to keep down the right path and getting into trucking

Probably going to have to wait 3 years on the suspension issue alone, plus being 21... Most of the training companies are pretty strict about that. It isn't the end however... There are lots of smaller companies and O/O that may give you a shot. But that is a gamble on training expense that may not pay off.... Go to a welding school instead!!!
