    Students applying for jobs

I have a few questions about students applying for jobs. I'm currently a student at SAGE and have about three weeks left. Here are my questions.

    1. When should I start sending out applications?

    2. Do I put on the application that I already have my CDL and all the endorsements? All I have left is my driving test.

    3. There are a couple companies I'm interested in that want 1 yr experience, is it wise to at least send them an application to show my interest? Do companies occassionally make exceptions for someone with a spotless record and/or based on demand for drivers?

    4. I plan to move from Wyoming to Colorado once I get my CDL. Do I use my current Wyo. address or my inlaws Colo. address? We will be briefly staying with the inlaws after I get my CDL.

Thanks in advance for the advice.

Start sending out app as ASAP

You don't have a cdl yet so do not list it, if a co wants 1yr exp. then most likely they will NOT take a student. You are still a student even after you have a cdl in hand. As a newbie you still need lots of training to learn to be a SAFE driver thats why some co. will not hire newbies.
List your current address and a note that you will soon be moveing. If you list your "new" address a potental employr may consider it as a falseifcation and toss the app.

    1. Send out applications ASAP.

    2. If you are getting your CDL within a day or so I would go ahead and list it. I did that and didn't have any problems.

    3. Waste of time if you don't qualify.

    4. The issue with this is that you are required to hold a CDL in state of your legal domicile. If you are already using your in-laws address then you need to get your CDL in CO. If not, then use WY.

Explain that situation to a recruiter. Also, find out what the hiring areas are for the companies you're interested in. When I was looking at going back OTR in early 2011, there were plenty of companies who were interested in me when they saw my work history - until they found out I was living in Colorado. There were a couple times they missed the home address and just saw that I had a North Carolina CDL, so they assumed I still lived in NC.
