What medications disqualify a CMV driver?

A driver cannot take a controlled substance or prescription medication without a prescription from a licensed practitioner. If a driver uses a drug identified in 21 CFR 1308.11 (391.42(b)(12)) or any other substance such as amphetamine, a narcotic, or any other habit forming drug, The driver is medically unqualified. There is an exception: the prescribing doctor can write that the driver is safe to be a commercial driver while taking the medication. In this case, the Medical Examiner may, but does not have to certify the driver. Any anti-seizure medication used for the prevention of seizures is disqualifying. Methadone use is disqualifying. The Medical Examiner has 2 ways to determine if any medication a driver uses will adversely affect safe operation of a CMV: 1. What drugs were you taking when you posted that ? You need a medical card to get a CDL . Use of certain drugs will disqualify you.

When you report for pre-employment drug testing you are not queried as to any medications you may be taking. The screening test results are forwarded to the Medical Revue Officer, who will contact you about the test results if there is A " hit " on A target substance. If you have A prescription the pharmacy is contacted to substantiate that. If your personnel physician attests , for instance that you have been taking XYZ for over 5 years and he commits that in his judgement that no issue exists, the subject is moot unless you carry it further. HIPPA Federal Regulations prohibit revelation/discussion of A persons medical/health issues without their consent. Again , if you weeded out every citizen in this country based upon his or her use of mood elevators/stabilizers you may as well shut down most of the industries we still have functioning. Look at the ads for drivers and note how the criteria for hire is becoming less and less rigorous. The bureaucrats have been so busy formulating solutions in search of A problem they have effectively disqualified everybody that has ever driven A CMV. You can drive 3 million miles OTR , and maybe not experience an accident or incident. A combination city and road driver has the odds stacked against them. The economy , job changes, insurance companies, legislatures , bureaucrats /enforcement entities ; seems as if there is A movement afoot to shut down the logistics operations and add to unemployment and the depression.

Makes sense...put a bunch of inexperienced folks in trucks by using the excuse of a "medical condition" to disqualify the experienced folks that the government would have a harder time controlling..... Isn't that called trying to "destroy the industry from within"

Actually they do not test for methadone. Unless specifically asked to test for it it is not on a regular DOT test. It is actually a violation of privacy to do so.

If you are diabetic that will also disqualify you.

There are many others, check with the doctor to be absolutely positive.
