MI CDL-A to IL

I don't know where to ask this but, I have a question about my CDL-A.
6 Months ago i got my CDL-A in MI because i was having trouble finding a job. With that CDL i was going to go work for TMC but they kick me out because i needed glasses. Being discouraged that i had to travel 12-24 hours to Iowa just to be sent home. I decided i'm just going to wait until the next hiring season with my college degree (high school math teacher). So recently i just got hired and its in the state of IL. In order to transfer my CDL-A i have to take a road test and that is not possible since i don't have a truck. so my plan is to keep my MI CDL and have an Illinois State ID. Is this legal? I been searching on the internet and i can't get a straight answer. I know its illegal to have TWO drivers license but what if i have one out of state DL and one Illinois ID. also i don't think my residency will be a problem if i plan to live in MI during the weekends and during the summer. I think i qualify to be residents in both states.

Probably not legal, but to be truthful, not rare.

I know someone that runs on a Colorado CDL and lives in Illinois because of the way to transfer the license is.

If you can remain a resident of Michigan I don't see a problem keeping the CDL in that state.

I also don't see the need for an Illinois ID. Could you expand on that issue.

Did not catch where he was living.

It would not matter if Michigan or not. He would not need a Illinois license.

It specifies that you must transfer your license within 30 days of your residency change:

Subpart B - Minimum standards for substantial compliance by states

§ 384.212Domicile requirement.(a) The State may issue CDLs or CLPs only to persons for whom the State is the State of domicile as defined in §383.5 of this subchapter; except that the State may issue a Non-domiciled CLP or CDL under the conditions specified in §§383.23(b), 383.71(f), and 383.73(f) of this subchapter.(b) The State must require any person holding a CLP or CDL issued by another State to apply for a transfer CLP or CDL from the State within 30 days after establishing domicile in the State, as specified in §383.71(c) of this subchapter.[76 FR 26894, May 9, 2011]

If you have to get a new CDL and take a new Road test (and I am not sure there is a reason to do so) this is the 1 time I would tell you to get with the pick up and goose neck flat trailer for $200. There should be one of those outfits nearby.

Once you have a CDL you cant have an ID in another state. Your name pops up in CDLIS which is a national database. Once you try to apply for an ID in another state, your original CDL state is notified to cancel your CDL.

It's a great big no no to have CDLs from more than one state, but I'm not sure that the federal data base is going to pick up the fact you apply for/get an ID card in a state other than the one your CDL is issued out of. Just think of all the new training school drivers with a hotel address for their CDL in a state they don't live in.
