I talked to a driver the other day at Lodi that drives for Cherokee out of Stockton. He got a ticket for idleing his engine, and the truck even has the clean air idle sticker on it. The code enforcement officer told him that the city has made their own no idle law, and even with the sticker, you can not idle. It was 103 degrees at the time. The officer also told the driver that there are several other cities in Ca., that have the same law. The fine was 1,200.

I just called CARB today ( 866-634-3735 ) to try and find out if this is true, and even legal. The man I talked to said that any city can make their own laws and fines, and that he would "look into the matter, and get back with me". Right. So we had an honest difference of opinion conversation, and I told him that if I get a 1,200 dollar ticket for idleing my engine, after I paid 350 dollars for the clean air idle sticker, that I will never step foot in Calif again. It's ALL about revenue. The state is broke, and will do anything it can to get money. He told me it would be a good idea to know the city laws of each city I decide to sit in. Well, I told him, it's a good idea to just stay out of the whole screwed up state.

My boss is not adding any of the CARB required equipment to my 2004 Freightliner to comply with the upcoming rules for operating in Kalifornia. We don't haul enough freight to California to even make it close to worthwhile to invest in an upgrade. Lately the farthest west I go is Albuquerque, haven't been to California since the beginning of the year.

Let the BF haulers and steering wheel holders go into California. I'd rather make our runs to Georgia and Virginia than go into California any day.

FYI. CHP has begun issuing $300 tickets for non-compliance with the ARB ruling that the 9th circus court just handed down. You get two citations then the third is a tow truck to the border and a criminal ticket. A 1996 to 1999 engine is illegal in CA right now if you do not have a small fleet exemption in place already. You must have no more than 3 trucks and already be on the list if you have those trucks. If you have an engine from 1990 to 1995 you are good until Jan 1, 2015 even without being on the list ( sorry I have no info on older than 1990 ) after 2015 there is nothing you can do to run in CA with pre- 2000 engines. If you have a 2000 to 2006 engine you had better get on that list by Dec 31 this year or you are done Jan 1, 2014. Next year you can put DPF on your 2000 to 2006 and be good until 2021 (if you are on the small fleet exemption list by the end of this year). If you have a 2007 to 2010 engine (with DPF still intact) you can get on the small fleet list and be good until 2021. If you have a 2011 or newer CONGRATULATIONS you can go compete with Swift for that $1.10 per mile while making a $2500 truck payment... Good luck with that.

A small but vocal group of unelected tree huggers in California have managed to destroy a way of life for thousands of hard working men and women in a place that needs contributors more than any place in America right now. It may be easy for you people in the midwest and east coast to shrug your shoulders and say "those fruits and nuts deserve it" or "I just wont go to California"... If you think that these people are not setting their sights on you next, you will be sadly unprepared when it happens.

I hate pulling out of cali if its not one thing its another and every time I go I usually sit for a couple days waiting for a load out plus the 55mph kills me. I once got a ticket because my tandems was 1 foot too long.
