what the heck is an STAA truck?

I have seen this sign along I75 in KY and wondered about it (no STAA trucks on hwy xxx).

Then coming through Ashville NC there is a detour (they are working on a bridge). The sign now says "No STAA trucks" does that mean me? I went on the detour and there was a NC state police car in front of me and he didn't say anything, but when I get back to the yard I heard that two of our drivers who attempted to take that detour got turned around.

    Thanks,

    Dave

Surface Transportation Assistance Act. (STAA) In 1982 it was formed to help form weight and size limits to help the roads from being tore up from trucks.

102" wide....PA has a bad habit of using unusual terminology...no 102" twins for instance (oh, you mean doubles) and what the hell is a "brake retarder" and why would you want to ###### your brakes, anyway??

for a while i thought 102" twins meant turnpike doubles.

I went down a road once that said "no trailers over 40'" in pa once....near harrisburg. I was bobtailing so i figured...ill find out why. heheh....

haha; they would be too busy over here with that rule; if it ever comes out here, it would be easier for them just to wait outside ever trucking company to hand out the fines...

man, so many size limits, Im surprised that out of all the "big" things you guys like to make, the gov just wants to keep them small :P.
