Weight question from a noobie!

    Here it goes! Just got loaded and headed to the las Vegas petro to scale. Weights are steer:11360 drive:28640 and tandems:35220 gross is 75220. Going to CA, so tandems are at 40'. Lady in dispatch at swift Phoenix told me to move tandems forward and I'd be fine... Lol. Then she asked me where my kingpin is... Another lol moment... I told her 40' from center of rear axle. I assume she means 5th wheel, my question is, will moving the 5th wheel forward do anything for the tandems? The pencil pushers at Phoenix seem to think so, but I strongly disagree. I am correct, correct? My only option is to go back to shipper in the morning to be reworked, right? Thanks for any help!

    No. You're going to have to move your trailer tandems BACK and take your chances with CA length issues. Leave your 5th wheel alone for now, but it appears it is too far forward and putting more weight on your steer than you want. With 28,600 on drives your steer seems heavy @ 11,300, especially if you may not be full of fuel either.

    Moving the trailer tandems back would move weight to the drives. Sliding the 5th wheel forward would only take weight from the drives and transfer it to the steer axle. If you have to bridge in Cali then you need to adjust load in trailer.

    That's what I thought, nothing I can slide to make it legal. Guess I'll be back at the shipper bright and early! Also, only 50 gal of fuel onboard.

    If you are at the Ca limit on your tandems you cannot move them back. The price of that ticket IMO is not worth the chance of moving them to the rear. You could move your 5th wheel foward but with the weight you are saying you have on your steers now you will more than likely be over weight if you move it. I would say go back to the shipper and have the load changed.

    Moving my 5th wheel will not effect weight on the tandems, correct? That is my question.
