Western Express gave me an opportunity in the trucking business when no one else would. Next month will be a year that I've been with them, and it's been nothing but positive for the most part. Like at any company, your miles may drop at certain times, but for the most part, the miles have been solid. I make a point to always be on time, maintain my equipment, and work as hard as possible. I can honestly say that it's paid off more than I ever thought. I recently got a promotion where I'm home more often, and making substantially more than I was due to an increase in miles. In 11 months, I've gotten two raises, and overall feel appreciated. I'm at the point where I could go else where for more money, but am staying put due to the amount of money I'm making. I'll be at Western until I save enough money to pay cash for my own truck. One of the only down sides about Western in driving in NYC. At the same time, it'll make you a better driver at the end of the day.

I'm not sure why Western gets a bad rep around here. I think for the most part it's ex-employees that were fired, or quit coming here to bash them. With that being said, you have to completely mess up to be fired. You were either caught talking on the phone (without headset), rolled a truck, hit a bridge, ticketed for going over 10 mph, or something else that no driver should be doing. Western may not be the highest paying company around, but they will never ask you to run illegal, whether it be due to hours, or hauling a hazmat load. They stress keeping a good CSA score, and safety. I've never felt forced to do anything that I felt was unsafe, or illegal. On top of that, I've never called breakdown about an issue without it being fixed, no matter how small.

If you work hard, have common sense, and have an overall appreciation of having a job, you'll succeed at Western Express, much like at any job. Unlike at a lot of other starter companies, you don't have to worry about being fired for making a u-turn, or other dumb stuff that people get fired for. Work hard, and everything else will fall into place.

I think anyone working for them would agree. They are doing everything possible to lower their score. If one of their drivers gets to a certain threshold, they have no go to a CSA class until their score is lowered. When hired, they stress CSA. They do their part in the terms of fixing broken equipment that would lead to inspections, and points. At the end of the day, it's on the driver to get a broken tag light replaced, to make sure their tire pressure is correct, to obey the speed, or other things that lead to CSA points/inspections. If you get put out of service due to a HOS violation, you're gone. If you get caught speeding over 10mph, you're gone. Beyond who they hire, they can only do so much to protect their score. I also think that a lot of companies didn't give the whole CSA2010 enough respect in the beginning, and they are now paying for it with poor scores.

I'm not sure how familiar you are with CSA, but besides good inspections, the only thing that can lower a score is time.

I'd be willing to bet that by this time next year, that score will be dramatically lower.
