Got a pre-hire, ever heard of western express
Hello all.
Has anyone heard of Western Express ? I cant really be picky cause even though I have no criminal back ground and a clean license, I have been on ssd (disability) for 9 years due to a non work related illness (cancer) however I have a release from my doctor and passed the dot physical and drug test/ eye test. , but most companies won't hire mr due to no work history ( DUH DISABILITY).Anywat I recieved prehires form FFE - WESTERN EXPRESS AND US EXPRESS - which would you guys reccomend ? My concerns are short orientation and $$$$$$$ - not to worried about home time. New or almost new truck would be nice also. Please hel;p , I really don't want to start out in a bad place regretting my decision.
thanks
tony

They don't get the cream of the crop over there. In my opinion Western Express is worst than Swift to go work for. They have good equipment but hardly anyone qualified to drive it. Every truck I see is new and tore up. Check their safe stat scores!

US Xpress was great to me... However they will make you team with someone.
Just curious, why is a new truck important?

I'm not sure if you have previous experience or not. I would go to Us Express knowing the training and support would be highest there. FFE would be where I'd go if you have enough experience to "Just Do It". Do a year, then reevaluate.

Thx guys. I am graduating school so no exp. I wanted a newwer truck just because I was thinking they would be more comfortable. I just want to drive for a good company. SO, FFE OR US EVPRESS IT IS. Thx guys for all the help. I am really good at driving - my state inspector asked if I drove before - I said no why ? He said he would have thought I was an experienced driver. He let me drive on the highway (hwy 2 in pa - rt 309 and aliitle on interstae 80) on the second day. I can easily do the alley dock and s dock. So, I know how to drive, I want to get solo asap.

Some small company called Wolf Pak is good. Nice trucks, all shiny with the whole 9 yards.

You could also possibly get on with May Trucking. They hire recent grads and might be willing to take you. They have newer trucks (I had a 2009) when I drove for them. You would most likely be with a trainer for about 3 weeks before going solo. Another one that may take you is Gordon Truckin Inc. They also hire recent truck school grads & would put you with a trainer for about 3 weeks. They have APU's (Auxiliary Power Units) & inverters in the majority of their trucks. I have driven for both May and Gordon. They're decent companies, and have good CSA scores, which means DOT is less likely to pull you in for inspections. Hope this helps. Good luck to you, and CONGRATS on being released.

All of them will hire you with no or very little experience. The catch is they will put you with a "Trainer" for 4 to 6 weeks maybe longer. While with the Trainer you will run your ### off as a team and gross somewhere around $500 a week for training. Believe it or not with no experience you have a better chance of getting hired buy one of those companies then someone with tons of experience. I came off the road after 30 + years and ran local for a couple years just to catch my breath. Went looking for road work and was told by these big companies that even though i have over 38 years clean driving record, that because I wasn't OTR in the last 2 years i didn't have enough experience. That's how they get out of paying for experienced driver. WTF
