    Never say never.

    As a young girl I decided to I wanted to be a truck driver (this was back in 1977), I was told "NO, it's not a woman's job" when I applied to several company's in England where I grew up. In high school I was told "NO, you can't take auto shop or wood working cause your a girl", you have to take cooking and sewing (to this day I still can't cook but I can make a mean set of clothes without a pattern). I used to spend a lot of time with my dad tinkering with cars in the garage, I guess I was the son he never had.
    I have never been a foo foo girl, never played with dolls, my mum gave up trying to get me into a dress and stay clean for five minutes, I was always swinging in trees, getting dirty and playing with boys trucks and cars, as real tom boy does.
    Anyhow fast forward 35 years, I had an injury and can no longer do the job I was doing for the last 25 years so I decided it was time to live my dream (I'm not getting any younger), I am now going to start CDL school in a few weeks and my life time desire to be a truck driver is going to become real, I moved to America in 1985, and am very proud to call myself an American that can finally be what I always wanted to be, a truck driver, so you see never say never.

    There are hundreds maybe even thousandsof Good female operators on the road today! Many of them have thesame never say never spirit you do! Some have even paved the way! It,wasn't easy they always had to do things a little better, try alittle harder Prove they belonged. Not to long ago they would sendthe girls on the cheap runs, the short hauls, the jobs no one elsewanted to do but, your timing is good now and no one seem to give asecond look any more!     Home Economics and Civics were pretty much banned in high schools in the USA in the mid-70's. They were replaced by something called "Social Studies" and "Health Class", taught by all the younger teachers just coming out of school. We learned about things like civil rights and women's liberation, where babies came from and how you got VD. Co-ed gym class was instituted for a few months until too many girls got hurt. It was great to see America progressing past all those oppressive traditions.

    The great thing about trucking is that you will be treated just like a man.
    It's a very equality inclusive environment for women.

    I believe anyone should be allowed to drive and make a living in trucking.

    I just have a hard time understanding how you can drive barefoot and pregnant like all women should be kept.

    We need to return to Home Economics. I took it starting in 7th grade, all the way through High School, and I'm a guy. I can also cook (as opposed to buying instant prepackaged crap and mixing it with tap water). There was nothing wrong with Home Ec. This explains why most of the young ne'er do wells today can't clean a bathroom, cook for themselves, or even balance a check book.

    BTW, Social Studies and Health class were totally separate from Home Ec when I went through Jr High and HS. All were necessary, all gave me an education that I still use today.
