    Dear TR Forum,

Tomorrow I will be taking my DMV CDL permit test so all of our hard work should pay off. I have been studying my CDL manual for weeks. However, on my DMV CDL Manual's Sample CDL-200 Road Test Evaluation Form Section C. Leaving Curb, I noticed a requirement I did not read about in the rest of the entire manual: 50 foot brake check....15 points. Does this mean drivers must test their service brakes using the foot pedal within the first 50 feet after they leave the curb, during the road test in addition to the complete, three part, air brake test during the Pre-Trip Vehicle Inspection? Any CDL Instructors in the house?

    Thanks a million,

It might be a trick question.

    Exactly how is it worded?

I tested in CA, and I have never heard of a '50 foot brake check'.

Well, if you're only taking the permit test, that is part of the road/pre-trip test looking at the .pdf. http://www.dmv.ny.gov/broch/cdl/cdl10sec11-13.pdf I'm guessing it is NY since that's the only thing I can find using DMV CDL Manual Sample CDL-200 Road Test Evaluation Form Section C. Leaving Curb.

The only thing I can find a quick reference to is on a forum about NYC bus training. http://www.nyctransitforums.com/for...busmta-bus-training/page__st__260#entry563967

That's what you'd be stating during the test to the instructor. So it appears it is just testing the brakes within 50 feet. I wouldn't take that as definitive as this is one forum post relying on another forum post.

    TheShadow Thanks this.

In Texas these are the last 3 optional brake tests they may ask you to do. First a pull test, then a rolling brake test to test service brakes, then another rolling test where you roll slowly and pull your parking brakes to test them.

Impressive research DirtyBob. BTW: I lived in the Thousand Oaks area of CA for about a year a long time ago. Actually, the excerpt posted was from the NYS DMV CDL Manual's last page: 13-6. I did not read the sections pertaining to bus driving as I will be getting a Class A. Frankly, I am not too worried. I will check with my CDL school and the DMV about it before my road test. For now I just need to get my CDL Permit. Thanks.
