Hello all, My name is James. Ive been wanting to get into trucking for awhile now. Im 26 and live in huntsville alabama. I drive a truck now but not a big truck. I love traveling and driving. Our parts truck that works for excel asks me every day have I looked into a cdl. Im not quite sure where to start. Ive been driving a stick since I was 16. Im sure its quite different in a 18 wheeler. But willing to learn. My question is what would be the best company ( if there is any out there ) to do paid cdl traning with working for them for X amount of years. I was looking at aviertt express. Id like to do regional. Or something that gets me home every now and then on the weekend. Ive sat in my grandpas truck he works for US Xpress and I thought that was the coolest thing ever. He has a automatic volvo. Sitting up that high seems like a daunting task but Im sure Id get used to it over time. But enough of me ranting. Any info on Which company would be the best that people think would do paid cdl traning and work for would be helpful.

I would go wit a company like Swift or maybe Prime for a start. You will need to sign a contract to work for them a year then you can move on. Don't look for a get home every weekend job just starting out those are few and far between and usually reserved for exp drivers.

If you have no CDL then you should look at a training company that would get you through a school to get your CDL. There are many companies that do that but it depends on where you live. Also driving a stick will help only when easing of the clutch and when changing gears, on a truck its different but driving a stick makes it easier. If your looking to get you CDL then good companies I know that will help is Prime, Roehl, Central Refrigerated. Theres more like Swift, Stevens Transport, CR England, CRST. Stevens require you to be in the state of Texas now or come in with a CDL in hand. But the 2 worst I would say is CR England and CRST. You can find a good company but its your choice to know which one will be the best for you. Good Luck

Thanks alot. I seen alot of swift trucks out here in town. Im not worried about every weekend. Just every now and then to spend time with my nephew. Say for a regional job..Based on experience starting off new..When would you say days off or at home would there be. Or is that based on the company I chose.
