Chart Bar My short list...

Good morning all. I have been plugged into the pc the last month or so doing research on different training companies. I have narrowed the list down to four possibilities. Thought it might be time to throw the list out to get some opinions.

The most important factors to me are: safety, reasonable home time, and training. (i.e., I want to go otr for experience and to learn the business from the ground up.)

Pay is a factor, but only after factors listed above. I'm gettin' hitched in July, so after we settle in now is the time to go ovr before we have a kid or two.

Maverick and Roehl are battling it out as my two top options right now. I like some physical work so flatbed appeals to me, and Roehl's 7/3-7/4 option seems very appealing to a soon to be newlywed.

Schneider has a great training school, but of course I will sacrifice home time, and will give an 18 month commitment. (not a big deal, I expect to do 2 years otr to qualify for my ideal driving jobs.) CRS would be my last choice, although I think reefers would be a bit more interesting, and I think the miles would be really good.

So... I respect the advice of the folks on this site and I thank ya'll for that in advance.

You must be in Texas. I'm going to Schneider in CA. The commit is only one year. Plus I may be a little bit more lucky , I signed with a dedicated route in CO. Salaried postion as a utility for a parts account. Everything I hear they are pretty good. Put up in a hotel and two meals a day. i already have my A, but they are training me for a doubles endorsement. I'm still going through the full course as I have not been in a rig in 7 yrs other then test drivering Bobtails for my mechanics. I do have about a million miles in a bus and about 50 thou in the truck. I been hearing a lot of good things about them and all my dealings with them from the medical dept. to the recruiter have been professional and pleasent.

Good luck.

Thanks Streak...from what I've read here on the site, SN has really been turning things around the last few years...and their training program is very well respected. I could do much worse than putting in my 2 years with them.

I may see you on the road sometime!

Good luck in whatever your choice may be. Keep the good additude and don't let the naysayers get to you. when you get lemons make lemonade. I had a close call almost went wtih CRE...stay very far away from them.
Drop aline when you decide. I'll let you know how it goes. I may bring my laptop with me since I found out they put you up in a farely good hotel.

keep it safe

you seem to have some really good choices there. i have run reefer before and i liked it and would probably do it again if it came done to it. the biggest thing against reefers is you will spend alot of time backed up to a dock door getting loaded/unloaded since you'll hit a lot of grocery warehouses. roehl and sni are very good choices. it's all up to what you want to do. good luck on your descion and whatever you do stick with it at least a year.........

Right on. Thanks for the well wishes. I'm thinking the otr lifestyle (I know it is a lifestyle not a job) would not be for me longterm. But even if I am ready to be home nightly after 6 months otr, I will keep my eyes on the prize.

It is kind of a right of passage, a paying of your dues. I will likely need 2 full years experience to get a local job with a company such as McLane. If it takes 2 or 3 years to get the best job I will stick it out...and have as much fun as I can being on the road for we only live once and should always try to enjoy life however we can.

As a side not, I am pretty surprised no one has chosen Maverick, I thought their reputation was pretty good in the industry.
