Lol, it I did it with 3 separate trainers, only one actually had a restraint installed, I can't say it is safe, but it is common enough in this industry.

Just shutup and enjoy the ride.

I team and I won't sleep on the top bunk. Each driver just lays his own sheets down when they go in the bunk. Takes a whole minute to do.

My trainers bed was made so well. There's no way I was going to touch it. He was a super neat freak. Had a place for everything and everything had its place. No way I was going to not put his pillow back in the right spot. Also the top bunk I had back then. Didn't even have a real mattress it was like a memory foam type thing but I endured it. When I drove team I did sleep on the bottom bunk just because I didn't trust the clowns who were driving plus the fact I was in a cabover when I was teaming.

I had one co-driver who insisted on sleeping on the top bunk. He was an idiot.

Ditto the talking to your safety department... It's still crazy as all heck to be up that high with no restraints between you and that oh so comfy 1/2" of flooring over the wood or steel.
Your own sheet, pillow (or two if you're like me) a sleeping bag and a spritz of Lysol or Febreeze are your friends.NavigatorWife Thanks this. -
i was always told you cant sleep on the top bunk while its moving. but think about it, if your trainer wrecks you have a pretty good chance of going through the curtain and getting a gear shifter through your skull. as far as hands free driving goes...you can do it,but if you get caught youre looking at a 2700$ ticket. get a headset and save yourself some money, they are cracking down on it.

Wow, I'm surprised at some of the replies. There ain't no rules. I'll never wreck or lock the brakes down. That's what some of you trainers are pretty much saying.
You are paid extra to deal with certain extra things which includes the student sleeping on your bunk. So instead of telling the student to deal with it, how about you dealing with it or don't bother training. We don't need trainers that make their own rules teaching students it's okay to defy the regulations. We all may slip and slide some but training is not one of them times. Then you all complain about the new breed??TarnishedSoul, Skydivedavec, NavigatorWife and 4 others Thank this. -
Years ago my trainer told me to sleep on top bunk. She was my second trainer and the truth is it was alot better up there.you didnt hear the kingpin jerking around in the fifrth wheel.and the air cond.was cooler from the vent up there,If safety dept knew she was telling rookies up there she would of been fired.big no no
