I just got my CDL-A and am starting in a month with my first company, Roehl. After training, I will be out 13, home 3. Problem is I live in a deed restricted community and their bi-laws and the city ordinances prohibit me from parking my rig in the street nor in my driveway. Without paying for storage, any thoughts as to where I can park (safely and legally) in the Greater Tampa area. My company has a depot in Jacksonville which is too far away, so I would need something within a hour radius from Tampa. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Check out places like Walmart and Lowes in your area? I was left to the task of finding my boyfriend someplace to park when he came home because our apartment complex was not an option. I often see trucks taking their 10 in the side lot of our local Lowe's and when I went in to speak to the manager, I found out they welcome trucks to park there as long as they do not interfere or block the trucks that need to make deliveries to Lowe's. I had checked out storage areas and everything in my town and come to find out that my last hope was my best bet. Maybe you could make a similar arrangement locally?

First place I would try is one of the commercial truck dealers in your area... International, Freightliner, Peterbuilt, etc. Next choice, I would not hesitate asking a trucking company that has a good sized truck yard in the area if you can take a spot now and then when you are home. These choices would be your most secure locations. Many people do this sort of thing. If you approach them BEFORE you show up with a truck and ask them nicely, the odds are in your favor they will allow it. It may not work out, but if anyone understands the situation at all, it will be one of these locations. Worst case scenario, they will want some form of space rental fee.
honeybadger make a good point, but the downside to this is that your truck is not secure from damage or theft while you are at home. I would have no problem with this idea in many locations of the country, but Tampa is hardly one of them. That is the same as Chicago or Dallas in my book. But that is your call.
And Roehl (or any other company for that matter) will hold you responsible for securely parking their truck.firemedic2816 Thanks this. -
Welcome to trucking in fl. If you don't know someone with a warehouse or a lot, you have to pay to park, especially if you're looking for safe. Plenty of places in the I4/i75 interchange area like the truck wash, TA, the old 301 truckstop which is being renovated right now. Checkout craigslist under parking and storage as well. Since you'll only be home at most 6 days per month, daily charges will be the way to go unless you don't have anyone to pick you up and need to park your car. I pay $135 a month in Orlando for a paved lot. I would check with Roehl and see if they'll help you out with the parking fees

Here is a place, but they charge. I don't know if they do only monthly or what. I'd be worried about the truck parked in an unsecured lot. But, maybe company drivers don't worry about that so much.

I would talk to your recruiter they could prob help you, when I worked there back in 2010 I know they did it for at least 1 guy who lived in Miami.

Fortunately I can park at home because I'd be uncomfortable with my truck being left alone in the open, but I would hardly equate tampa to Chicago. -
There's a flying hook at x285 in dade city. Its a solid 30 minutes from tampa, but i'd try that before walmart, and way before I left it at the ts's in mango.
