why do companies pay extra for newyork and northeast?

    Have you ever driven a big truck up there? Its an experience, for sure.

    Plus, finding freight back out can be a real pain unless your company has dedicated freight lanes moving out of that region.

    i go into ny the cheapest way possible and it costs $98 to enter and $35 bucks to leave

    and for those great prices you get to sit in traffic for hours, which is better than driving fast, because when you drive fast thru nyc, your truck takes a beating

    Drive straight up 95 from the Delaware Memorial Bridge to New Haven, CT one day in the middle of the day and see if you want to see that on the regular while earning simple pay...

    have no desire to EVER run nyc. unforunately with hurricane sandy happening heard a rumor that our company has a contract to haul building material and things like that in town.... we shall see lol

    Freight rates are cheap, trucks get beat to crap by the roads, traffic is horrible, and the chances of accidents are increased, most places are not made for the size truck you drive, tolls are expensive, fuel is expensive, food is expensive, if you can find a place to park. Most shippers or receivers are rude and don't want to see you, especially if they are union, and you are not. You can get stuck in the NE all week hauling freight, making the company money, but you won't get any miles. I could go on and on.

    I hauled new furniture all over the NE for years. I could work much easier and put in more miles in the same time running the midwest as I did when I had to do east coast loads.

    about $250 in tolls for about 250 miles, in about 8 hours

    I have heard to get in and out of some NYC bouroughs, you better have a stack of $5 bills. When a crackhead stands in the middle of the road blocking your way, you toss a $5 bill out the window and when they go pick it up, you can then drive on until another one is blocking the road. Any truth to that? By the way, I start CDL school on Monday, YEEHAW!!!!!

    I go up there every few months. I have no problems at all with it, just part of the job. But all of these horror stories you hear....they are all true. Everyday...every week through there, NO WAY! The reason some companies pay extra to go into NYC is because most of them are getting paid extra to go in. Schneider National, about 8 years ago, was charging $500 dollars to deliver or pickup in one of the boroughs. It's probably more now. The equipment is tied up all day getting in and out, the tolls are outrageous and basically the premium charge is necessary to make up for the lost productivity that is incurred.
