    Hi all,

I just finished CDL school and I have all my endorsements. I am just wondering if I should go ahead and get a TWIC card before I start working. I am on the list to go to Prime but since I am a female I have to wait and see when then get a female trainer. If that does not work out I will probably go to Werner. Do you think while I am waiting to go to work that I should go and get my TWIC card?

    You help is greatly appreciated.

Can you afford to "waste" the money if you work for a carrier that doesn't require a TWIC card? Getting one may show your desire to get a job. Will you be getting a Passport also?

Depends, some companies pay for the twic & if you leave you must give it back. If you pay for your own, it's yours & you take it with you if you leave the company. If you can, get your twic & passport now so you will be prepared if a better opportunity presents itself.

Go to Roehl. They pay extra for TWIC. Besides, have you read the Prime forum? Why wpould you go there or Werner? Read the forums! At least Roehl drivers are HAPPY!

I would wait until you know who your employer is, and then ask them if you would ever need it.

If they say yes, then I would apply for it before you leave for training/orientation. Its roughly $110-$150. If you get it within 3 or 6 months (cant remember which) of getting your hazmat, it's cheaper.

I pick up on a lot of ports, so I would be severely limited without it. 15-25% of my live loads require it.

I am not planning to flatbed. I know my limitations and that is one of them. I cannot see myself lifting a 85 - 100lb tarp.

I have read the forums and from what I can figure most beginning companies are not great you just have to know that and make the best of where ever you go.
