I've been told that I cant get it until after having my Class A for a year in Tennessee. But there are some tanker companies that hire newbies right out of school. Can anyone clear the air for me?

Not in Ohio. I would call or stop in testing station and ask to be sure.

I just skimmed TN's CDL manual and didn't see anything that says anything of the sort, so I'm not sure where you got that information. As for Arizona, I have my permit now and will take my test in a couple weeks. When I get my license, I will have a tanker endorsement.

The school I went to told me that crap. I didn't think it was true though. I've tried calling the DOT but the ones around here are about as useful as a turd in a punch bowl. Ill try calling a different location to make sure. Tanker is where the money's at from what I can tell. Thanks for the information.

In California you can get any endorsement at any time but i agree that the tanker was the easiest test to take. i dont have hazmat but my tanker was way easier than the doubles/triples test

same thing here in Oklahoma, went in to DMV and told them what tests i wanted to take, took them all at once and when I passed road test got my license and all the endorsements were there. There are some transport companies out there that will ask for 6 months to a year tanker experience before hiring you on. So you have to end up working for a company that will hire new drivers driving a tanker to get that experience.

There is no wait for the endorsement. There are tanker companies that hire newbies and it's done on a case by case basis. Schneider hires newbies for tanker school. Pyles Transport in Nashville sometimes does. Tankstar occasionally does. One good area to check is cement companies & ask which tanker companies deliver their drybulk cement powder & flyash to them.

    TruckerNick Thanks this.
