I am currently working for CRE, and I guess unlike most peoples experience, England hasn't been bad to me. I have decided to quit to move on to smaller, local company though with better... Well, everything. However, I signed their paperwork when going through the school that I must drive for them for 6 months, blah blah, they will charge me tuition fee and report me to homeland security if I quit before time is up. So my question is how true are those two "consequences" and how severe are they? Should I stick it out with them (maybe 2 more months) or just jump on this great opportunity I'm being offered?

Two months? Why risk potential problems for two months?

Well, partly because the pay is better by about 66%, and partly because my cousin runs for this local company and they got positions that opened up now and will most likely be filled in 2 months, so I will miss out. They're not like CRE where they keep hiring and hiring and hiring, you know?

Idk, it's a paper I had to sign along with the whole class. Saying they'd report anyone who quit early because of terrorism or something. Their school uses many scare tactics though to keep students on their toes, so it could just be a scare tactic. I was hoping someone would be familiar with that here...

Homeland security is not an issue....they will report that you left and if you have another job it wont matter as there is no interruption in service... The school payback is an issue. I would be upfront with them...schedule a turn in date at a major terminal and organize a payment plan for the repay of the school fees. Use the Q/C document everything. I would even take pictures of the Q/C screen. The CR folks are masters at DAC reporting....Be a professional, dont give them a reason. What will more than likely happen is they will route you to the nearest terminal and release you on the spot. They are masters at protecting themselves as well.

If it was me I would wave at England as I was walking out of the door for the last time. You are allowed to quit jobs and move on to better ones. They can hold you responsible for paying back the schooling but there is absolutly nothing Homeland Security can do to you for quitting a job. Move on to the good company and leave C.R. England (p.o.s) behind. Whats sad is for every 1,000 that learn the lesson the hard way and quit there will be another 2,000 that will have to learn for themselves. These mega carriers are mills and don't care about any drivers. People need to stop driving for them.

Homeland security ... remember the "pilots" who crashed the planes? They only did the bare amount of training necessary then bailed out of the training programs before ever becoming gainfully employed as pilots. Trucking is much the same way and there are plenty of ways to inflict damage and terror with trucks and their payloads. Just trying to explain the homeland security question. Not making any accusations.

At this point in the OP's career, I too would recommend stick it out. Family positions often don't work out like planned and have drawbacks. And certainly 6 months with England will look better than 4 months with England and 1 month with an outfit that may or may not qualify as quality, verifiable OTR job experience

I Drove for them for a Year and it sounds like you got one of their Minimum Wage DM's Blowing Smoke up your Arse. I would just stick it out for another Two Month's because they will try and Squeeze every Penny out of you if you don't. Don't give them a reason, just Smile. That Local Company you want to go with will still be there and you'll have a couple of more month's Exp under your belt.:biggrin_25525:
