I took mine at a local Community college in Iowa. Two day CDL program. Check the internet/call around your area to see if that is an available option.

I drove tandem/tri/quad axle dump trucks for years with a class B and finally just made an appointment to take the test in one of the companies end dumps. Spend a few years in a dump and driving a tractor trailer will seem like childs play.

Also, all of the schools around here are ripoffs, school is no substitute for OJT. A good trainer is more important than a good school, there are companies that hire new guys with no school, search/ask around on here.

"Unfortunately, I have to disagree with you all. This is exactly how I did it. I studied my book and took all the tests in one day and got my permit. I then rented a truck for $375 and told my road test and I got my CDL. I got a job 2 days after I received my CDL and was sent out on my own soon after I was hired (that night in a beat up, no A/C, broken mirror, didn't meet DOT for nothing truck). I now have a better truck and have learned alot in the 3 weeks I have been there and I can honestly say that I prefer this method then spending $3-$5k on school.

One other thing is that I really wanted to learn how and since I am a fast learner it took me no time at all figure everything out."

Ya, I highly recommend you do not follow in this guys footsteps! Not only is he an unprofessional driver but he's driving around in an illegal truck!

As you can see from his results these are going to be the only companies that are going to hire you! Most want you to have attended an accredited school for a minimal amount of required hours.

Don't sell yourself short, do it things the correct way the first time!

You had posted awhile back you knew a place that you could get your cdl paying 250 and getting cdl in one day? do you still have this contact. I have my permit and my DOT medical card. I was being trained by a company and the guy went out of business, left me high and dry, I have been driving his trucks for about 2-3 months on my permit with his trainer. I do not know everything i need for the pretrip. Would this route you speak of help me learn the pretrip?

    thanks
