A Pete will go over a million miles and not fall to pieces. Can't say that about volvos or the throwaway freightliners. Like their slogan used to say "class pays"

It's also a tradition thing. Myself I like the looks , but hate the truck I'll drive Volvo anytime nice ride easy to drive plenty of space. also I'm short a long nose sucks for those of us lower to the ground.
mikestime and willardskillard Thank this. -
Pete's equate to the Harley of the truck world.
NewNashGuy, truckman29801, Campitor and 8 others Thank this. -
QUALITY!! It's that simple, kind of like the difference between a Lexus and a Chevy.

DTP, Rigbuilder and n3ss Thank this.

Little Man Syndrome. Even the owner of Peterbilt used to run national ads that claimed Kenworth was "World's Best", while Peterbilt's was only the one word, "Class". PACCAR never would state which class.

How so?
Compared to any other truck, the drive train is absolutely no different. Cat, Detroit, Cummins for engines. Trannies are pretty similar as the rear ends. There's only so many combinations you can put together.
Interior wise, the Pete's I drove never impressed me. KW's impressed me more in looks.
Pete's tend to have a cult following just like harleys.
Pick the driveline you want, the body is just the wrapper around the package.Rigbuilder, Crashboyd, enicolasy and 2 others Thank this. -
I'm not too familiar with the newer Pete's, but about 10 years ago you could go from the front end to the back end and find higher quality parts all over a Peterbilt compared to a Freightliner. the bumper, hood hinges, hood, hood springs, mounts, doors, door hinges, door latches, every switch and guage, the interior panels, etc..... I still like Pete's cab suspension set up best. At the time the low rider suspension was the best you could get on a truck, although prone to broken springs. KW is good too, but I don't personally like the taller narrower cab as well. I'm driving an Int'l 9400 but planning my escape back into a 379 or 389 xl someday.
antoinefinch Thanks this.
