I see ice road truckers, shipping wars, nascar drivers and all that....
I know this is kind of a broad question, but I am generally curious... What drivers get paid the highest?

At UPS Parcel the feeder(doubles and triples) drivers generally do very well. Many make over 100k a year and the UPS Freight linehaul guys are just under that level.

Owner Operators can do very well or totally fail. Many variables can determine this including company, freight and authority. Oversize loads, car haulers and specialty freight o/o's normally do the best though.

Well you wont get paid per hour, and your not home every night, so you have to take that into consideration. (break it down to hours away from home and it's very depressing) Also, big warning! Just because the per mile is larger, doesn't mean you will get the miles. You could very well make more money a week somewhere else with a less per mile rate.

It depends what region you are in.

There is Conway Western, and Southern, and Central.

The central guys in the northeast/midwest top out at 24.55
Western tops out at 22 something.
Not sure of the south but Im sure its less.

do you mean the unusual jobs, like ice road? ice road truckers make good money, of course the risks they take far outweigh those of us mere mortals driving in conus. iraq was paying exceedingly well, but again.... oil field drivers from what i understand get paid pretty well.
i think the highest paid truck drivers doing "normal work" are doing it all themselves...own the truck, have own authority, and reinvest in obtaining a few more trucks and get others to make them more money. there are huge risks, and with that comes a potential for bigger reward. some of these big companies started this way... someone with vision taking a risk, succeeding, and compounding it with more and more risk for a bigger upside potential.
for those of us not willing to take that risk, there is ups, which pays its drivers quite well, and gives ridiculously good retirement benefits. theres your local foodservice industry driving job. the one in my area pays drivers upwards of 60-65k per year for 4 days work per week, plus profit sharing. car hauling and household goods moving both pay well. hauling oversize loads can be lucrative as well, but come with their own list of headaches.
if the question was asked for purposes of what to "shoot for", id look at the car hauling, foodservice, and household goods. all of these can be broken into fairly easily, usually requiring some modicum of experience, so you will most likely have to start with regular ol' "otr". flatbed otr pays a bit better generally than refer, refer pays better than van. refer is very little extra work, flatbed quite a bit.

DRIVERS at Guardian building products make anywhere from 17 to 21 dollars and hours, base on their new pay scale. However i do believe you would need to be there 5 years to hit that 21 dollars and hours mark
