First I have heard of this.

Doubt it will happen though. They have to get a court order to check DNA, so I would doubt this will be allowed.

Havn't heard or read anything about DOT starting this but if they want to they will not need a court order. You volunteer your hair or it goes down as a refusal. Don't need a court order if you volunteer it, You have a choice. Just like a breathalizer test, if you want their CDL, they want their test. Normally the only ones who refuse have somthing to hide.

I don't doubt that. All I was referring to is that if a cop has to get a court order for your hair sample for DNA, now all they would have to say is that you applied for a DOT job.

I just don't see it happening.

Yeah, I don't either. I have heard, but cannot confirm that, hair folicle test are quite a bit more expensive than a piss test. And it would be alot harder than the swabs that some companies use.

hair drug test

Actually, I was looking through jobs for drivers because expedite has been soooo slow, this is our 6th day sitting on the west coast now without a load, I think it was a greyhound job but not positive because I looked at so many of them it could have been another one, almost sure it was greyhound though, the ad said would have to pass a background and a hair drug test. I remember thinking if someone did drugs, like me for instance ( I do not do drugs, drink or smoke just so this is clear ) They would be in trouble as I have hair past my waist. Wonder how far back the test would go since I haven't cut my hair in many years!
It does seem that would be unfair to the younger people who might have tried the drugs as a teenager and then went on to become an upstanding citizen. I guess women drivers would not be able to have long hair if this is the case. Of course I have seen some men drivers with hair almost as long as mine so they would probably have to cut their hair as well.
Actually a very good question, how long would the test go back for the link of the persons hair would be my un-educated guess.

I doubt it for the simple reason that the big trucking companys are too cheap to spend the money to have a hair test done i know of some companys that already do them like sysco for instance but I cant see the big companys doing them especially being that most their drivers only work for them less then a year.

if the DOT changes the rule i guess the companies wouldn't have a choice - i'm sure they don't like spending the money to have us piss in a cup either but theyr'e doing it
