Would it be futile to go and get a urine, hair, and blood test, just to cover his ###?

I guess I would, as there will probably be lawyers involved. At least he would have a Med Examine with a date on it...?

I read an article about someone using his kids urine and was able to pass the test, while doing further research I came across this site, firstclasssafetytraining.com and read some good articles regarding Truck Driving Safety Training. Looking at all of this, I think I can make a career out of truck driving.

Well first thing you have to do before you throw in the towel and let a DAC report dictate your life is follow the procedure find out what exactly is on your Dac and go from there When I made my mistake swift happen to not be reporting anything to DAC because of the amount of lawsuits they were being hit with so dont auto. asume its going to be there but it probably will be and so long as you have a couple years exp. and live in a town with a population of more then a few thousand there is always a truck driving job whether it be the rock quarry the garbage company or a local construction company just get out and look. good luck my friend.

Interesting - hair tests are not sanctioned by the FMCSA - largely because they are not timely. The drugs a person took yesterday may not show up in a hair test.

Hair tests are good for establishing a pattern or history of use, and are thus used in court cases.

Urine samples are good for drugs imbibed in the past 2 - 96 hours, or so.

--------

I forget who it was, but a number of posts ago, it was indicated that samples are randomly tested for the 5 drugs. That is, sample one is tested for opiates, and sample 2 (from another driver) might be tested for THC.

If, indeed, that is the way the test was performed, it is invalid. Per FMCSA, each sample must be tested for all 5 of the forbidden classes of drug.

Please, read the Rules

Hair Test

When they do a hair test, they take a small amount of hair and cut it off even with the scalp. They only test the area close to the scalp. They cut off and discard all of the longer hair. It may be as small as an inch by the scalp that gets tested. That only tells what drugs have been used in the past few months. It is very inaccurate for post accident since it won't show what drugs have been taken within the past few days or hours.
I don't see the big trucking companies going to this on a regular basis unless it is for pre-employment screening since it is cost prohibitive and doesn't show anything other than a previous history. Urine drug screens are quite accurate and should test for all 5 classes of prohibited drugs. It is not smart to use and drive!

Ummm...

I don't know what your issue is...they are looking for illegal drugs.

If you tell them, when you take the test that you are on a prescription, like IE Tylenol 4, that is noted on the report.
