    Hey TruckersReport,

    http://www.thetruckersreport.com/tr...ew-drivers/201687-fyi-schneider-national.html

I just got off the phone with a Werner recruiter and wanted to pass along the info for others who may be interested. Keep in mind that this is just general information and could vary depending on different reasons. Werner has an orientation/training period of 6-8 weeks. The first 2 days are orientation, followed by OTR with a trainer. You will get paid a flat salary of $400/week during this process. You may go with whichever route is avaiable after this period. Your starting pay for OTR solo is 26cpm, followed by 27cpm after 6 months, and 29cpm after 10 months. You receive a $200 sign-on bonus after your 1st week. You may also choose a Dollar General dedicated route which starts at 30cpm, or a Regional account which starts at 29cpm. Please understand that your pay may be change depending on where you are at or what you are hauling. Also, there may or may not be a bonus/incentive package. I recommend talking with a recruiter for more in-depth and detailed information. Please use this post as a general overview of what you can expect. Thank you!

That recruiter did'nt tell you anything about the dollar general account huh. With the DG acount I think you unload the trl and very diffidult backing. If someone chooses the DG account I would see about going out with a trainer that has that account. All those Dollar General stores you see with small lots,Werner sometimes has to block the street and back in from the street and some of those roads are very narrow. In my opinion,30cpm is not enough for the DG account.

This is supposed to be attractive? 8 weeks with a trainer and under 30cpm?

Wow. A Swift driver thinks those are low pay rates. And to echo what Pattyj said, I would expect at least something in the mid-.30 range for a driver unload route with tight backing requirements. I would guess that Werner pays per-stop too, but I doubt that would make up the difference.

Backing is backing, do you want more pay to back into a tight spot at the truckstop. Backing has nothing to do with pay, you need to have a decent pay so you can have a decent standard of life, and not have to worry about your family and bills while you are hand unloading those trailers. Remember your self worth when acepting these jobs.

    Safe miles and good luck,

    Larry

Pay to back was the furthest from my mind but pay to unload is what im talking about. If a lumper was to unload they would get $200.00.Werner should pay mileage as well is pay to unload.

If that pitucular load has miuti stops then yes Werner pays I think $25.00 per stop I think. But alot of times it's one full load at least when I drove for them that's how it was.Pay has'nt changed so I doubt that has either.Werner and Swift are the 2 most lowest paying starter companies there is in the industry.Werner gets away with it so they'll continue to pay low wages as well as low miles.Werner gets ppl coming in like flies so if someone quits not a problem,I have 10 drivers to take their place and aubsidy money for each driver they bring in.

I didn't really dig real deep into the Dollar General account while on the phone. At this time, it does not inrerest me as a rookie driver. It is 100% unload, you are correct. I agree with you on the difficult backing. I am more interested in starting out OTR doing all 48 states. I know most people would rather have regional or dedicated, but I want to get out and see the country. I need to get away from this small town I live in for a while. Also, I have not made a decision on any specific company. I have an unbiased opinion on all of them, and suggest that everybody does there own research to find out what will work best for them. I will keep my personal opinion on them to myself so I do not influence anyones decision.

I went 1 month with Werner on a Family Dollar account, The backing was almost always tight and you had to be johnny on the spot with your backing so you are not blocking roads for too long.
For me PERSONALLY, It was not worth the stress, I can back a trailer with no issues, but the policy is G.O.A.L. and if your blocking a busy street in someplace like Laredo at rush hour, and you get out and look, you may end up being hit by someone that is in to big of a rush and not paying attention. Just my thoughts...

So are you planning on going to Werner? If so and since you want OTR,you'll spend most your time in the Northeast which is a great way to gain the exp but a lousy way to make money. But then again with Werner unless you have money in the bank you'll probably be getting alot of cash advances.
