Stay at home dad when Mom was working? Not at all unusual these days. They may want a couple people to vouch that that is what you were doing, but it shouldn't disqualify you.

Yes, my wife was working. She was on duty for the first 2 years. I was employed at Clean Harbors and was a Haz-Mat tech. We had decided that the pay wasn't worth risking my life since we just started a new family. She went back to her old job and makes enough money to support the household. We didn't want out child growing up in daycare with someone else, so I gave up my career. She wants to spend more time at home and loves to bake, wants the experience of being a room mom and spend time with our son before he's grown up. These past six years have flown by. My turn to go back to work and we decided to not go back to Haz-Mat and since my father was a truck driver, that made me look into it. I don't mind hauling Haz-Mat, I am just not putting on the white suit and respirator anymore.

What's wrong with putting stay-at-home-dad on the application?
Haven't heard much of Clean Harbors in a while; are they still in business?

Just researched Clean Harbors; still in business & still a terminal in my old hometown. Some good driving jobs with hazmat for tanker or dry van.

I wouldn't bother mentioning the under the table stuff it won't really count I would get letters from people you know.vouching for your time as a stay at home dad and if you have a cdl in a couple days that will probably be good for a lot of companies I don't think your missing much at prime . Swift and schnieder. Millis and.rohel all seem like ok places to start and mabey stay long term if you like the company being a stay at home dad won't scare off every company .

Unless you have proof of where you were and that you were actually unemployed as far as these people know, you were learning to build truck bombs in Pakistan... The world has changed and trucking doesn't mean anyone can just hop in one of them and drive off into the sunset.

This is why you should avoid the mega-carriers and be talking to companies in your area after getting your CDL on your own. When you can sit across the desk and talk face to face with someone to explain your situation, while making a positive impression it can go a long way towards overcoming these issues.

Recruiters only want to get the most people in that will be the least amount of hassle. They have zero interest in your success or happiness. YOU are the one who has to ensure your success and happiness. A mega-carrier certainly is not the way to achieve it.

What you have to ask yourself is , do you want to work for a company that hires anyone? Try to find a company that works best for you make sure they have job retention there so you don't have a sour taste or tough time learning the ropes. In other words due diligence goes ing way! Good luck in your endeavors.
