I begin classes at Roehl in less than a month and have concerns over bobtail parking within city limits. The parking nazi's don't allow on street parking, understandable enough, but was wondering if anyone knows if they'll be on my @*# if I park on my (soon to be constructed) driveway. I'm not on a truck route. Kinda squirrelly about leaving the tractor at a truckstop and don't see many other options. Not sure if Roehl has any shipping points in town that would allow 3-4 days parking from time to time.
Anyone who can offer some advice? Thanks in advance.

Where are you parking your trailer if you are bobtailing?

It depends on the local ordinances, and whether neighbors complain....as far as parking on your own property.
In some places, you can park a commercial vehicle on your property, but you're not allowed to do any 'work' on it. If a jerk neighbor sees you checking the oil or tires, washing it.....you can have problems.
The truck stops around Fort Wayne are pretty crowded at night. You need to get this figured out before you take this job. I avoid jobs where I have to take the truck home, since I have no place to park it, and won't deal with the headaches of that situation, again.

I suspect that I'll bobtail from Gary but not sure...it's 135 miles. Some potential to relay loads (or pass off a trailer to other driver) in Fort Wayne.

Thanks for the input. As a newbee my options are limited as to who I work for (for the first year). I think I'd rather leave my 4 wheeler at my "home terminal" but will need to determine if that's allowed. If need be I'll have to pay for fenced storage near terminal I suppose. This may be a reason to job hop once I gain experience.

I think leaving the truck @ the terminal is your first bet for now. Maybe you can find a storeage facility close to home that will allow you to park there for a daily/nightly fee.

    wheels4reelz Thanks this.

There's a place out by Sweetwater, Total Fleet Services on Kroemer Rd I think. Several trucking companies rent parking areas from them, Roehl MIGHT be one, or they may work a deal out with you for parking. Can't hurt to ask.

Good idea...I did a little searching for this kind of solution (must be fenced I suppose). I'll have to give it another look.

Don't know how Roehl does it with deadhead and bobtail driving but.....135 miles away from a terminal (or company facility) without an empty trailer is a bad way to start off a first day back from home time. I'd also not get too sure about them allowing you to relay a loaded trailer with another driver just so you can bobtail home. What does he do with his trailer? Or do they just dispatch a bobtail to you? Just some things you need seriously to think about. I'd almost tell you that your best bet would be to just park a personal vehicle at the terminal or drop yard and take that home when you shut down for home time.
