I'll start my OTR training with FFE in a couple of days...all they have though is stick shifts (10 speeds) they use Freightliners, Internationals and Volvos.

thats the best way to learn... only thing autos are good for is fuel mileage, traffic, and some do pull good, but not all..

Yeah i know some people prefer stick shift cause of speed control...but my thing is i'm having trouble up/down shifting going up hills...i hope i dont have to go thru any mountains are real heavy hill areas. I just should be heading out OTR with my trainer either tomorrow afternoon or friday.

Just remember shift slower when going uphill and shift faster when going downhill... the gear you are in going uphill should be the same going downhill..

My mistake I believe. I was under the impression you were talking about downshifting up hill and upshifting down hill.

I work for DOT Foods( DTI), yes the entire fleet is automatics but some still have clutches to engage the drive. The newer trucks have the Volvo ishift 12 speeds with just brake/fuel pedal. But odds of being in a newer truck are slim to none after training, and as a new driver they hire you to break down the loads. It's a good company, but if you have a bad knee I wouldn't suggest it unless you can talk them into letting you be a transfer only driver. Just drop and hooks.
