Companies that train, pay while you train, and aren't quick to wash you out

I guess the title says it all. Anyway, I know these questions have been asked and answered in the past, but sometimes the old threads have dated information, so please indulge me:

Can anyone please list for me the big companies that currently are training and paying during training? Since I have read about examples where some companies have a tendency to wash out a lot of trainees, any information about that will be appreciated too.

    Many thanks.

From my research I have yet to find a single one of them that pays you while training for your license. That's 2-4 weeks or possibly longer without pay depending on the program. Once you obtain your CDL, then you will start earning a check. The companies all differ on the pay amount.

all companies pay while training a cdl holder. if you mean ones with a school to train to obtain the license, i know of none. in fact, they charge you, and most have some sort of up front cost (nominal fee type thing maybe 100-300 bucks). then there is the cost of their school, which for company schools range from reasonable to outrageous. the BEST deal ive heard of to date is prime. they are reported by others on this forum to charge somewhere around $100 the day you sign, require a 1 year contract, and charge NOTHING for then school provided you live up to the 1 year employment contract. nothing deducted each week as tuition payment, which is unheard of through most other carriers who have company schools. if you must go the company school route, i think this should be at the top of your list of companies to investigate. at the bottom of your list should be crst, cr england and swift, who all have imo policies and actions that prove them to be crooks.

Yes, thanks for the clarification: I meant those with a school to train to obtain the license. I do understand that they charge for the class, and cancel the cost if you stay with them X amount of time. I assumed that in the question. Thanks

Cool, I didn't have to wait long for some useless smart*** remark. fyi, I know full well from reading here and elsewhere that there isn't such a company. For example, I know they jack up the prices on those classes and hose you if you don't like how they treat you when you have to stick it out til the cost of the class is paid. All I asked for was useful information, dude.

Some pay you some don't. I think there are also some companies that will help you out with food and lodgings and such during your time in school. Most companies though really try to get you through as quickly as possible. In reality once you are out on the road with your trainer is when you are really learning the ropes. The school part of it is just to get you to obtain your license so that you can go with a trainer and be trained properly.

Try looking into Central Refrigerated. They have a school and are very good about helping their drivers out during schooling and training. My wife and I have personally driven for them and highly recommend them! They really go above and beyond to help their drivers succeed!

    Good luck to you...

Jim, sorry you had to swim through ######## remarks and half-### assumptions. I really don't know why some of these people bother to reply at all. I guess it just gets too boring at the Pilot parking lot and they feel they need to stick their nose in someone elses business.

To answer your question, there are quite a few companies that offer this. The best two are Prime and Central.

Prime: They will pay for all of your upfront costs, including housing, food, and licensing fee's. They will also allow you to borrow up to 200$ a week during schooling, and training, and you pay that money back when you start making actual paychecks.

Central: Central will also pay for all of your costs upfront, and house you for free. It is, however, up to you to pay for your own food. Central recommends bringing about 100-150$ to cover food expenses. You will also need an additional 60$ to cover licensing fee's.

The only major difference between Prime and Central is the training period. Central will have you riding solo in your own truck in less than 3 months, while at Prime you may be training for up to 6 months before going solo. Both companies have competitive pay, and both allow pets on their trucks. Just remember that both of these companies will try to push you into signing lease...don't fall for it. Tell them no, and make sure they know you mean it. They will eventually leave you alone and realize youre not a fool.

Try to avoid companies like CR England, Stevens, Transam...youll just end up quitting or washing out like 80% of their applicants do. Terrible companies.
