are there any problems driving under the table? there are soem companies around here I want to get with that do that, once I get my CDL

You could have a lot of problems if you were hurt on the job and they were not paying workmens comp on you.

I would highly advise against it!! Driving "Under the table" (no pay paper trail) can get the company in a great deal of trouble if they are caught. If you are pulled over by law enforcement and it is discovered you are driving "Under the table" then you are very likely not following many other DOT regulations and they are certainly going to search to find as many illegal activities as they can charge you with. In addition, if you are involved in an accident you will certainly lose your license if you are not running legally.

Companies are required to check you out in their vehicle before you drive for them. They are required to provide a certification card to you that they have done that. The company is required to check your background, DOT physical and drug test history, etc., etc. If you are driving "Under the table" they are most likely not doing any of this.

Now ask yourself this, if you are pulled over for any reason by law enforcement what do you think will happen? Since you are driving "Under the table" you are not on any company records. How difficult would it be for the company to claim they don't know you, the vehicle you are driving was stolen, etc., etc.?

Would you want to take the chance of not only losing your license but also going to jail for felony theft, etc., charges just so that company can save some money on paying employment taxes, benefits, etc.?

i would "drive under the table" if it was a quick run, which i have done so in the past. i would keep a logbook sure, just for that particular job. i would do this for extra cash in conjuntion with my "regular job". i never had any problems, and i would run the I-95 corridor north and south from Maine to Florida. but that was years ago.

i would not recommend that you do this as your "regular job". for that, i would recommend a job that takes out taxes, pays benefits, etc. that "under the table work" is done in just about any industry, most notably the auto repair industry where mechanics work at home over the weekends for extra cash. so its wide spread, no one can deny this. you just don't want to rely on an "under the table job" as your sole support, as you will need to be able to collect from unemployment or social security when you retire. and for that, you would need to be able to contribute to the system. that "under the table work" should just be your "gravy or mad money" for that nice Bass boat or ZO-6 Corvette...........

I like the idea of keeping uncle sam out of it. I wonder how companies like this can operate though - like what you all said - they need to keep records of the drivers, but don't anyone notice that no one is getting any hours who works there? but none the less, I prefer to work that way if I can. maybe the workman's comp thing is the reason they do it.... i think a lotta people abuse that #####.

You sure you arn't just talking about contract driving
