| this post is getting more attention now than it did last year but for sure you can make 50 your first year- the right driver with any company that that aren't tightwads. I didn't do it but a friend of mine did. He is a darn good driver though. |

| can anyone tell me whats a good starting rate for fuel haulers? i live in the metro atlanta area. most of the companies here pay %. whats a fair %? |

| It all depends what type of company you're working for. There's three type of fuel haulers. The Common Carrier, the Dedicated Carrier, and the Major Oil Company. The lowest paying job will be the Common Carrier. Their pay varies of course and I've seen it go from $12 and hour to $15. They haul any fuel for anybody. The Dedicated Carrier is set up to run one account. Like Shell or any of the majors. You can spot them by looking at the truck and you'll see the account name on the trailer then on the drivers door it's a different company. They pay a little better. The major oil companies hire these companies to haul their product because of many reasons. They could be too busy for their own trucks or the area is small and they don't have their own trucks there. Then you have the Majors. The Big League. They pay more than any truck driving job I've seen and the benefits are the best. I don't know about percentage rates because I stayed away from these types of companies. You don't get paid while you're loading and unloading. And if the rack goes down, which they do all the time, you sit there with no pay. If you see a tanker and it has Gulf, Shell, BP, Chevron etc on the tank look at the door to see if it's the same. If it is go find out where their office is and go and talk with them. Tell them your goal is to work for them one day and ask what you can go to help that process. There was lots of times I sent a new driver over to our Common Carrier and they would get hired. One major issue you've always got to remember. You'll have to go through crap before you can get to the top. You'll need to keep your record clean and you'll build a name for yourself. Our new hires always came from companies we knew and we would also know if that driver was safe, had no accidents, and didn't contaminate the load. | I worked fuel for 10 months and made 43k. that was also my first year driving. got paid a garanteed minimum, or percent of load pay whichever was higher. Am doing chemical hauling now and hoping for the 50k in my second year while still being home nights and weekends off. but... I am working on the 4th. (volunteered) 4 1/2 hours up the road, 1 hour offload, 4 hours back home, pay, $500.00 For that change, I'm your man, call me.... please... lol normally is about a 250 run but holiday + weekend + I dunno.... I kinda forget how the conversation went after he said it pays 500... I was sold...

| Yes, a new driver can make $50,000 a year after training. If they're paying you $300-$500 a week to ride around with someone and you just spent 4-10 weeks in school, of course you CAN'T count that as part of your first year. After that ,it depends on your effort and the deal you made with the company you signed up with. From what I've been reading on these sites, there are some companies where you'll probably NEVER make $50,000 a year unless you're talking about 2087 dollars. |

| it sure is possiable to make 50k+ your first year, look at me for example, i graduated school in march this year,08, and i am making 68k a year, my first trucking job, dont just settle for the basic companies that hire everyone, do what i did, 6 months of school gave me plenty of time to find and locate the perfect job, running short haul, home EVERY weekend and every holiday..... i was on the computer EVERY SINGLE DAY looking for companies other then your top 5, i also went to the truck stops near by, parked there, and wrote down the names of companies, or i went and talked to the drivers, would go home, ' google ' the companies and see if i met the requirements.... every truck i passed i would write the name down and and look them up..... thats what you need to do., for any new drivers, dont settle for the crap thats out there, for some, you have no other choice, but after 6 months of driving at the same company, a new door will open for you, cause your concidered to have " experience " anyway, yes, 50k+ is possiable.
