I graduated from trucking school on 3/2013 and I live in Delaware. Within the past 29 days I have submitted 34 applications from the mega carriers to the smaller local companies. So far I've had maybe 8 companies respond to my apps. One had an issue with my one and only ticket that was two points. Several had an issue with me living in Delaware even though they advertised for Delaware. The few remaining companies had an issue with my lack of experience even though they advertised that they hired new grads. Last week I was contacted by a recruiter from TransAm. I had applied there two weeks ago. She asked for more info for my app. I gave everything she had asked for and even found out that she had been my brother's recruiter when he had worked there. After two days she had everything she needed. That was on Thursday. Friday I heard nothing. Having never been hired by a trucking company before I don't know how long it usually takes to hear back from them once the recruiter has everything. I'm looking to pick the brains of the seasoned truckers here to see what the tricks are to get noticed by any company. I would also like to know if anyone here would have an idea of what may be happening at this point with TransAm? I am beside myself with disbelief in how hard it has been to find a job. I've read countless forums of other grads with similar issues. I'm finding similar issues with smaller companies as well. Class B jobs wanting 2-5 years experience. I have applied for both a TWIC and hazmat just to be more appealing to any company. I have a feeling it isn't going to matter. This industry is very bizarre to me so far.

Are you ONLY filling out online apps?

i think with all your endorsements in hand, twic, and you going out and knocking on doors...

that you'll find something you're looking for.....

good luck..... Btw what was the 2 point violation on your record?

The ticket was following too closely. I got screwed on that deal. I was coming up to an intersection and the light was red. There were 3 lanes, left, straight, and right. I was going right and a pickup truck ahead of me was turning left. I was about 100' away when the truck decided to go right. He illegally changed lanes cutting me off and reducing my stopping space. I barely tapped him. His license plate light broke, that was it. But, in this (and most) state if you rear-end someone you're guilty. When the light turned green my witnesses left. It comes off in 18 days.

Here's what I would do in -your- situation. Forget the mega companies, knock on doors and go IN PERSON to some of the local companies. If you can't get on contact the companies in the oil fields. Someone will hire you. Go and get some experience. What you DON'T want to do is wait. After 30 days goes by your chance of being hired is greatly reduced.

You explained the ticket...but never mentioned if applying online was your only method of looking for a job. Have you been actually knocking on doors (going out and applying in person?)

patience patience patience ,you need that in truckiingYou never heard back last friday from transam.Thats big carrier, that recruiter has more then just you to look up.It can take awhile. You may hear back tomorrow. If you don't hear anything by the afternoon then call your recruiter.I've had to wait a week before hearing back from companies.Far as getting notice, you can get that idea out of your head.Recruiters don't have a clue what you look like, your personality ect.All they care about is if your mvr is good enough to pass for their insurance company and safety dept. They call all the places you worked. As long as everything looks good, you're in.Finding a trucking job is nothing like your average job you have a face to face interview with.
