My hubby is in Werner orientation. His class is fairly large.
1. How long before you typically go out with a trainer after orientation days wise? With this many people Id imagine it wont be right away.
2. How long once you complete training before you get your own truck would anyone be able to go with him OTR?
3. How hard is it to stay in touch with family during his training?

It use to be 2 to 3 days waiting to get assigned to a trainer but since professional drivers quit everyday because they don't get pay for the hard work they been doing it's take a little while to get assigned to a trainer, once your huuby is done with training he will get assigned to a truck right away because werner has like 2000 trucks waiting for drivers. I quit on driving for werner 2 months ago

Why did you leave werner?

Probably because they are garbage. Didn't your husband do any research before he signed on with them?
randal02lee Thanks this. -
Yes he sure did and let me tell you he first went to watkins shepard and they stuck him with 2 piece of s*** trucks back to back from the get go and no real guidance on qualcomm. The last truck he had nearly killed him when it cut off in the middle of riding down the highway. So after that mess he figures he can handle anything. The first truck had someone elses stuff in it and appeared the driver abandoned it at that terminal. Then the second truck had no jake brake to do the mountain run and the broken radiator hose nearly killed him while driving. The terminal mechanic fixed the hose on the side of the road and he left it at the terminal and went home after only being there for 4 days of h*** and that messed up truck they tried to give to a fellow friend that just started and was waiting on a truck too to start driving as a newbie an hour later with his same load he didnt finish. Plus he gets a long with just about anyone so hes not too worried about training.

And this, dear readers, is why the bottom feeders survive to this day. *sigh*

-->I got my first trainer when I just finished my orientation. But I think the avg is 2 days.
2. How long once you complete training before you get your own truck would anyone be able to go with him OTR?
-->Well I had to switch trainers like 3times, but I finished it like 1 and half month, I think. After you get dropped off, you have to do more CBT(computer based training). He can do some while on the road if he has a computer, so just tell him to login and check on CBT whenever he gets chance like at truck stop.
Once you finish the last part of CBT at the terminal, you get 500 bonus, then go to pre-trip class. After that, you just wait for your truck. I got mine right after the pre-trip class.
Anyone can go with him after he gets his truck and pay for passenger insurance(It was like 10bucks or so).
3. How hard is it to stay in touch with family during his training?
-->He will be free whenever he's on line 1 or 2. If he wants to, he can call while driving with the Bluetooth headset but it will be illegal in some states. -
Werner is mentioned quite often in the 'Report a Bad Trucking Company' forum. http://www.thetruckersreport.com/truckingindustryforum/report-a-bad-trucking-company-here/
Is your husband an ex-con? Been convicted of drugs? A laundry list of felonies, with no other options? Those are who typically work for Werner now. And to make matters worse, when he wants to move on to a better paying company it will be harder, because they know Werner's history too. -

No actually my hubby was a paramedic for years. Not an ex con. Lol! Ya gotta start somewhere. He got assigned a trainer last night. Hes off tomorrow to train.
