I am looking to get my cdl at roadmaster in Columbus Ohio this August. I was hoping to go to work for TMC, but it may be awhile before I can get my passport due to back child support owed. I am no deadbeat, I pay something every month, but I started out way in the hole on some bad advice, and I have dug that hole deeper in a bad ecomomy. Are there any descent starter companies comparable to TMC that will hire you without a passport. Thanks

I don't know how much you owe in back child support and I don't know what the cut-off is but I do know that they will not issue you a CDL to first time CDL holders.

I don't know if that is a state by state issue but I do know people who have been denied in FL, RI, CT, MA, NC, and NH. I have also heard stories of it happening in other states as well personal know those people.

I know lots of drivers that do owe and owe a lot but where allow to keep and renew their CDLs. But all have been denied TSA clearances for their haz-mat. Some appealed and over time where able to receive the letters.

I would call you local DMV and ask them about it before I spent any money on the schoolin and if they do have restrictions ask if they have a wavier for it.

CA gave me back my license last January. They think I owe them $250,000. I don't know if I will someday get back my passport.

So basically the states are saying: "You owe money and until you pay it back you can't have a CDL... which you will need to make the money we want you to pay back."

    Is that right? :smt017

I called RI-DMV where I live and they said that back child support can have all kinds of affects of CDLs.

Not being able to be issued a first time CDL is just one of them.

I RI all you have to do is have the court rule that it is ok with state to issue you a CDL. This normally requires the other parties of interest all agree to it.
