I was just kidding with you sir. It's a good thing to take pride in yourself, your professionalism and your truck. It only goes to a certain extent though. Sure, a guy might have on "proper" attire but might not shower or has the giant gut poking out from his stupid button up shirt. The clothes don't make a man, the man makes a man. While I would say walking around in pyjamas is a bit much, I think me wearing running shoes doesn't make me any less of a truck driver than you. As for society, I couldn't care less what they think of our industry. At the end of the day I work an honest job, I pay the bills and I get things done. If I do all that while wearing shorts, so be it.

Ah ha. I could not detect your tone of sarcasm through the keyboard. You are right, tennis shoes are not necessarily a bad thing when driving. It depends on the type of trucking you do. A flat bedder would never wear tennis shoes but a reefer runner that never leaves the pavement would be fine. Even then, if it was me I would still put on boots before I stepped onto a loading dock. As for shorts, no grown man should be wearing them unless he is near a large body of water. But thats just me, and I am Texan.

I would never wear sandals on the loading dock. Most times I will wear my boots, however if I'm in a rush or I simply forget I just wear my sneakers. I have seen guys in open toe sandals on the docks and it makes me cringe a little. As for the shorts business, I can see why you'd always wear jeans. You ranch cowboys don't know any different. Lol

Yeah, I must be an old geezer I guess. I come from a time when America was a Super-Power, not the joke it is today. I come from a time when people let their kids talk to truckers, not telling their kids to stay away from the weirdo in the truck. I come from a time when Americans had class and style, not going shopping at Walmart dressed like slobs. I come from a time when you would hear someone using foul language maybe once a year, in public, not like today, when little kids tell their parents to "F" themselves.

Back when I was young, very few people were on welfare, compared to today. The ones that were did not brag about it. When a man got hurt at work, he fought through the pain to get back to work, not running to the social security office to cry like a baby about being disabled.

You young people are not only low class, but also proud to be such low class. Women today can't even tell you who the father of their kid is, without a DNA test. Even the ones who do know who the father is, don't see any need to be married to him. We had names for women like that when I was a kid. Back when I was young, men were men, and women were dignified. Today most of society is a collection of scam artists, ######, and basic pigs. So excuse me if my age (50) offends your modern, enlightened, sensibilities.

In an attempt to clarify a little, let me say the following:

It is OK to be comfortable while you work. You just can't use confort as an excuse to dress like you have no pride.

Driving in bare feet is just silly. At least put on some type of sandal or house slippers. But the problem with that is, what happens in a case of an emergency? There is a horrible wreck right in front of you.....do you jump out to assist the victims, or start looking for your shoes? If you jump out in bare feet, the broken glass is going to make you useless at the crash scene, if you don't have good shoes on. If you jump out with your favorite slippers on, you're not going to look too bright, running around helping people with 2 rabbits tied to your feet.
