Lets see...what kinds of shoes do I carry in the truck?

1 pair of workboots (non steel toe). Hate steel toe.
1 pair steel toe (required to have as part of PPE just t be on the property and to load)
1 pair flip flops (showers, swimming pools...etc)
1 pair of snake skin boots (for dinner and dancing)

Can you get away with regular shoes? Not if you're pulling tankers, skateboards, foodservice or going to any guvment facilities (like ports or nuke plants...etc)or OSHA jobsites as part of your job.

I think I speak for most truckers when I say, please, no flip flops or sandals in the truck stop. Thank you.

All I wear is Reebok's, and I see a lot of drivers in flip flops all the time.

I see everybody wearing either boots or sneakers... Depends what ure company policy on the matter is, but in my whole two company experience they had no such footwear policy ... Just worry about being safe sir

I wore sneakers for the most part but I kept my steel toe boots with me. I maybe needed them 2-6 times a year on docks that require them.

Here in the sandpile flip-flops and sandals and actually somewhat common among some drivers. Regarding Texas, well, to be honest, I wouldn't wear them there either so I can't really blame you for thinking that way.

As a tanker driver primarily in the South I wear two types of boots, Red Wings (pretty pricey but well worth it, they last for years, are chemical resistant, water proof and steel-toed) and Timberlands, also waterproof but no steel toe, a bit softer and lighter. I also have a handy pair of Birkenstock (these also last for years) sandals for longer runs and change into the boots as needed.
