There's never a shortage of new drivers asking what companies are best. To be honest no one here can answer that question with a sure fired response. Every driver is different and the needs and wants are different for all drivers. What new drivers need to do is sit down and compare the companies that fit you the driver. Most of the big companies have web pages and their benefits listed. That should be your first concern. Check out the benefits on medical, dental, pay, how old the trucks are, how long you go out, and so on and so. You can analyze the information and weed out companies or put them in order from best to last. But it will meet your needs and not some others. After you do that then you can start asking for information in the companies you like. Talk with drivers that are or have been working for that company and search out that company's record. You should get an idea of where you want to go based on what's best for you before you can ask which one is better.

If you don't then the best company is BP/ARCO.

"You mean the ThighMaster doesn't work as advertised? I can't just sit there watching TV and do an exercise 20 minutes a day, 3 times a week and look like those people on TV? You mean Jared had to do something else other than eat at Subway to lose 200 lbs?"

Everyone wants maximum results with minimal effort. The best school, the best trainer, the best truck, the best company so that somehow an eternal slacker can make it to the top of the food chain. That doesn't even happen in faerie tales. If SnowWhite went around and acted like a royal #######, you think that huntsman wouldn't have hesitated to crack her with his axe? Or the Seven Dwarves wouldn't have treated her like a forest lizard? Or the evil queen would have been jealous?

Come on now. First do you want to drive flatbed, tankers, vans? Do you want to go all over the states or do you want to stay a little closer? What companies are in your area? Do you want a big company or a small one? Do you have any tips from drivers that are already working at a company. Stay away from recruiters. Do you have a family and do the benefits help them? What about insurance, do you have to pay out of pocket 30% or 20%? The list goes on and on so your first step is to sit down and make a goals list that has all your interest and where you want to be in 1, 2, 5, 10 years on out to you retire. You have to plan ahead and not just getting a job trucking. If you just go with the flow and take the easy way you might just end up at one of those companies that run the hell out of you and pay you next to nothing. When that happens you lose interest in driving and you come away with a different attitude than a driver that plans his or her career. That's how you narrow it down to having a prioritized list of companies.
