I have never had a problem either with my age ,60,still a great drivers record helps and your attitude. I have found alot of companies welcome you and figure you can help others with the company just by talking to new drivers.

I'm 63 and in great shape. I got accepted by some companies, but there were several of the big companies who would not even talk to me as a new driver. WHAT ARE THEY THINKING, I CAN RUN THE PANTS OFF MOST PEOPLE. I'M JUST GETTING STARTED!

Some of that older driver discrimination may be caused by:
1. Older drivers know their stuff and are less likely to take the illegal load, or run with substandard equipment. Unlike some newbies who don't know better.
2. Insurance. Some companies may be looking to cut the cost of their insurance buy keeping older drivers out of the seat thinking they are a bigger risk than the younger ones health wise.
3. Grumpy old drivers. Some older drivers are never happy and younger ones for that matter. Nothing will ever be better than back in the day before deregulation ruined the trucking industry.
I happen to agree with the last part about deregulation. Just for the record I am not calling any driver "Old" or "Grumpy". -
