Hey I bought a Garmin 465t and it is OK, but what others do you think are better. The Garmin did send me right to a low bridge in NY City and takes me off Interstates and then back on at the next entrance. Carl

I like the laminated ATLAS...LOL Always cross reference until you get familiar with the hwys.
i actually have had a Garmin since they came off the assembly line, but always look at my map too.
Even that couldn't help me one day in Ithaca,Ny but luckily NY cheats a lil on their clearance signs.:biggrin_255:

Once you realize that none of them are perfect, you'll like it that much more.
Some places you will just have to be extra careful.:biggrin_25525:

Most smartphones have a good GPS..at least good enough to tell you where your at..not very good for low bridges & truck routes but hey look at the bridge before you go under it ,not the GPS as you do....lol

I'm not familiar with the Garmin but do you perhaps first need to put in a "truck profile" and select this before it will allow for low bridges?

I am currently using the Garmin 465t with lifetime maps. I have not updated the maps yet. This gps is not perfect but it is quick and very helpful. (Finding truck stops/rest area [near destination, near current route]) (weight station alerts) (downgrade alert/high wind alert)

NYC trips must be planned ahead of time, there is no gps that will get you through that mess safely.

I use just about every resource I have when planning a trip. The garmin gps is good for city to city travel. To pinpoint a customer I use google maps satellite view, then I compare that to what the gps is directing me to. If the gps is correct than I use the gps all the way, if not I adjust the point by using "point to place on map" feature in the gps, that way I can have it send me where I want it to. My Android phones Navigation is great for pinpointing customers quickly also.

Do not buy any "pc miler gps navigation" systems... you will not be able to put an address in it, I learned that the hard way, it seems to only accept longitude latitude coordinates. However once you have the coordinates in it you basically have a guarantee for safe truck travel (low bridges, weight limits, etc...)

You can download PC Miler software for your laptop and then use that as a reference. It is very difficult to use.

I would suggest you stick with your gps but buy yourself a laminated atlas and then cross reference them. Make sure you look at the directions list before beginning a trip as the Garmin loves to switch routes randomly.
