| What to expect from the company being a new truck driver? Hi, I have a question to which I will find an answer just from an experienced driver. My boyfriend and his father work together as a team, they started to work in this business 2-3 months ago. Right after the school driving they were hired by a company through some friends so they didn't have to deal with the fact that they had no experience. From the beginning the company sent them to Texas (we are from Canada), so they liked it very much because being paid per mile it was lots of miles what means good money. After a while the company started to give them loads with flowers so they had to drive in downtown Chicago having 13 deliveries and you know you can not do this in a day or 2 and in the end you end up with no miles/no money, being away from home for 5 days. After a month they left this company, now they bought a truck so they became owner operators. My boyfriend and his father got hired by another company again with the help of some friends. They are very mad that this company is sending them, guess what, with delivering flowers. Is not the problem in flowers but the problem is that they have all these deliveries in big cities in Chicago or New York what is making theirs job much more difficult and more stressful for poor money because of mileage.I am trying to calm down my boyfriend telling that they are still new in this business so they can not expect too much from the beginning. It has been just 2 weeks at the new company and they are thinking already of leaving this company too.The reason why I am writing here is that all our resources of friends who knows friends which own truck businesses are gone, the next way of finding a job will be from newspapers. Is it normal what is happening to them ?Or they really can find another company which will offer them long distance trips with all the experience they have. Please help me with this matter and give me an advice because I don't want to see them with no job, with a $70 000 truck parked in driveway and all the bills for paying this truck. Thank you very much in advance! |
