Need Info about Knight Ref

Hey all,
my man is starting with Knight next Monday after having been with Schneider for 6 months.Schneider messed up his pay and we had some more very stressful problems with them so he decided to try his luck with Knight.
He's supposed to be getting 33 cents a mile (at Schneider he got 23!).
I would like to know how good their pay REALLY is,what their benefits are,how they treat their drivers........basically everything thats important for somene who starts with them.
As far as I know he'll be on the road for two weeks at a time, how many days will he be off then?
Just let me know everything you can about them.My man lives in WA and I guess he'll be driving in Washington,Idaho and Montana mostly?! So I was told.
Thanks for any info
Nat

I friend of mine used to drive for Knight before he got off the road. He liked working for them and would go back if he decided to run OTR.

Their "training program" is a 3 day orientation that should be out of his home terminaland is rather pointless. You had asked about their pay. Their pay isnt too bad they tend to pay you on time but their mileage pay is a horrid system, as like most companies they skim miles from the drivers appx 4% of your loaded miles a trip and 2% of your empty miles. They offer a daily pay which is what i am on and it seems to do me alright. As for being bsed out of WA, he will be doing alot of the I-5 corridor from Los Angeles to Seattle unless he is willing to run coast to coast. All in all they should have him home every 7-14 days for 2-3 days off which isnt too bad i guess. I am just going back out on the road here in 2 hours, delivered a load to where im staying temporarily on tuesday at 1800, was off wed, thurs, friday and around 1030 ill be back out and was out for 19 days. Hope this helps.

Knight Refer

I talked to a couple guys in Portland Terminal (Refer Drivers) One runs mostly Western States and the other guy who is out of the Phoenix Terminal runs a dedicated Phoenix to Portland then picks up in WA (dont remember where) and go's to Atlanta then back to Phoenix. Kinda nice if you can talk to the right people who do load planning/dispatching.

Find A Good Company!!! Not Knight (Red Swift)!!!

Jim's Fiancee,

Knight's policy to to try and run a new driver for about 8 weeks if possible. During the 3rd month of his probationary period, his miles will fall off to the 300 to 500 miles per week range if all stays the same. This happened to most of us.

Time Off?

Jim's Fiancee,

"Red Swift" does not like the term "time off." They prefer to use the term "unpaid layover time." If he stands up for himself, your man will be given the opportunity to clean out his truck or sit and wait for days at a time waiting for a load and NOT be paid for his layover.

Knight still owes me for 2 loads and 17 days of actual layover waiting for a load I earned during my 93 days of employment.

Sorry, but Knight does not do ANY training. What they do during orientation is quickly cover company politics and policies. NO TRAINING.

Seriously. The only way to learn anything about Knight is to see if there are any senior drivers around (more than a year). Knight is one of those companies that have virtually no senior drivers. There are less than 10 drivers left with 15 to 20 years at Knight (the last I was told). All the others have quit.
