you have to raise the back of the 5th wheel up so its even horizontally..use your broom handle or a pole.....I have a crow bar that I keep for removing wood in the trlr..also a good weapon...
then either lower the trk of raise the trlr...

Also know as Highballing the trailer. It happens. Before backing under why it best to GET OUT AND LOOK at the height of the trailer. Nothing to be paranoid just learn from it and all is cool. But it does happen to the best of us (finger pointing at myself)

Sounds like you fixed the problem. I'd be willing to bet you do that again!! Just remember - you're not the first person to ever make that mistake.

Yep, that's pretty-much the correct procedure. If you're paranoid about jumping the 5th wheel, wait till you dump your first trailer !!! Just hope the thing isn't loaded. Checking the pin to be sure it's closed or even a tug test, doesn't always mean a trailer is locked onto you king-pin. Always do each test no matter what you hear or see ...

we all have done it at one time or another so don't worry...after the first couple of times it happened to me I got myself into the habit of raising the landing gear of the trailer a little to make sure that doesn't happen...also when I drop I would usually leave about a two inch space between the ground and the landing gear, dump the bags and ease out from under the trailer...who wants to waste excess energy when you don't have to you know...also find a crowbar or a cheater bar or both...anyhow have a good rest of the day driver I'm out........

The only time I ever did that was when I dropped my trailer so the yard dog driver could back it into the tight door inside building. When I went to hook up, I went under the fifth wheel. My airbags deflated and took several minutes to reinflate. I knew something wasn't right when I was backing up :biggrin_25510:

I took a a piece of wood to pick up the rear of the fifth wheel plate and pulled forward. No biggie.

No reason to be paranoid. It's not like the trailer jumped up in the air while you were backing under it. Just check next time.
