Hello, I'm about to join West Michigan CDL and my MVR just got cleared. I have job offers from Roehl, Stevens, and USXpress. I think I already know the answer to this question by skimming through this forum, and it seems like Roehl would be my best bet. I'd really like something local (home time is pretty important) but if I have to work OTR for some experience I'm fine with that. Any tips for an upcoming student? I don't want to get swindled by any company, as they would probably take advantage of my age (25). I've been to a couple recruiting lunches and they just seem to flash money and pay around, which is definitely important, but I'd like to work with a fair company that treats their employees right.

Looking forward to following my Grandfathers footsteps in the trucking industry!

Stay away from those companies if you want to avoid being swindled. Your going to get offers from all the mega-carriers. If a company is legit and worth working for they aren't going to come after you.

Of those 3, I would pick Roehl.

Since hometime is important to you, Maverick and McElroy have a weekend home program. Perhaps Roehl has something similar.

I'm a driver with over 26 yrs of experience and have lived in West Michigan. If I had to choose from.the 3 aforementioned carriers I'd personally choose Roehl. And, USXpress would be second. Only until you can get some experience and find your niche.
